is it safe for a couple to have unprotected sex using an anti-pregnancy patch if neither has any disease?
Answers:
If your concern is pregnancy, you should really be using a condom regardless of any other forms of controception you are using. Birth control is most effective with multiple methods are used. You are using a hormonal method by properly using the patch, but a condom is a barrier method and will more or less ensure that you aren't relying on the patch to work. While condoms have a certain chance of failure, so does the patch, but the patch's function will only be tested if the condom fails.
I know that condoms can be annoying and a real turn off, and in a comitted relationship most couples prefer to not use them. Do realize that it is always possible that your partner may be unfaithful, or may have not had proper testing. Some diseases take as long at 6 months to register on blood tests. It is really horrible to find out your boyfriend has been unfaithful because you have both broken out with an STD.
In the vein of understanding, and assuming your only concern is birth control, you can look into methods of monitoring your cycle. When on birth control, it is pretty easy to determine when you are most likely to ovulate, if you are going to. I hope your doctor has explained to you that it is not impossible to get pregnant on birth control, just less likely. While birth contol strives to prevent ovulation, it does not always happen. If you essentially use the rythm method in conjunction with the patch you will greatly reduce your chances of pregnancy. They rythm method is very ineffectual by itself for most women, but when you use it to determine the days you are most likely to get pregnant and use condoms on those days, you increase the likelyhood that you will not get pregnant.
There is a multitude of information about the rythm method avaliable, in the resources section is one link.
it's safe, but the trust most definitely has to be there..just be careful..
You're putting a lot of trust in the other person. They will rarely admit when they've strayed.
You should deffinatly be careful, But seemingly you should be fine, if neither of you truely do carry and diseases
If your partner is being truthful then you should have no chance of getting a disease. But the only way to protect yourself 100% from getting pregnant is abstinence but the next best thing is a condom.
