Hi. Welcome to the Q and A part of the site. Here's a chance to get answers to your questions without actually having to ask them out loud. There's also a list of other resources at the end of the section. If you're still thirsting for knowledge, talk with a parent, teacher or other trusted adult.
* When will I get my first period?
* Good question. Most girls get their first period between the ages of 9 and 16. Most means the majority - not everyone will fall into this category. Anyway, it follows the development of breasts, hips, waist, pubic hair, and a growth spurt. Put those clues together and they usually add up to imminent period alert. In addition, a girl will often weigh at least 100 pounds before menstruation begins. Genetics also plays a role. If possible, find out when your mom got her first period to get an estimate of when yours may arrive.
* What will happen when I get my first period?
* Usually a first period is very light. It will probably be a few spots of bright red blood or a brown sticky stain that shows up on your underpants. If you are out in public and don't have a pad with you, don't panic. Remain calm. This is a time when true female bonding occurs. Hopefully, your mother or other adult relative will be close by and can supply you with a feminine product. If not, try Plan B. Ask a friend or other woman if she has a pad. It's a well-kept secret that every woman at some time in her life has had to ask another woman for a pad. Yes, it's embarrassing, but you can rely on other women to see you through this situation. And in all honesty, first periods were designed really well because it is usually so little that it won't seep through to your outer clothes.
* How long will my period last?
* Everyone is different. It can last between two and seven days. Most girls have it for about five days.
* What should I do when I get my first period?
* In addition to what's covered above, it's a good idea to have feminine products ready for that first period, and to know how to use them. (See the Kotex products section of our site for more information about these products.)

How does a period work? what are you asking?
Im not exactly sure what you mean here. So im going to say a few things. First an egg is released from your ovaries, and if not fertalized this will make you get your period, while you uterus lining, is sheding. It will last between 3-10 days. You probably will get very moody, and find you are very tired and would just like to be alone. Also you might get cramps.
Hope I helped!

You started ovulating. When a woman ovulates she releases eggs from her ovaries. If the egg(s) go unfertilized then the lining of the uterus sheds which is what you see on your pad or tampon. It means you are now able to get pregnant. I started mine when I was 11 and had no idea where mine came from either so good for you for asking. No shame here. Best to you.
wow. that sux. always keep extra pads/tampons in your pack. every women is different. some cycles are regular - you know more or less what day it's coming - some are irregular ...it'll just kind of take you by suprise. I'm regular - thank god.
If you pay really close attention to the feeling you have in your vagina...you will notice that right before your period comes like the day before...it gets wetter. It is getting ready for your egg to drop. This means you are now fertile - which means if desired you would be able to get pregnant.
The time of day for the period to arrive changes mine usually comes before noon but today I got it at about 2.so...and sometimes at night or early morning.if you get it during class ask the teacher if you can go to the bathroom if they say you should have gone during break wait till class is over something along those lines kinda make a emergency face and say pleeease..it's easier when it's a woman they tend to catch on faster.if it's a male they usually get it when you are insisting it's an emergency.
I actually took this issue to the front desk - male teachers expecially tend to forget at what age girls hit puberty. I hit it at 10 too and for a while I just didn't get it and hid my bloody panties from my mom.till she found a pair and we had a chat. very simple.and helpful!
remember to always keep extras...what I do is write down the date my period comes and for how long it stays.then the next time again...and again this way I saw I had a regular period and could be prepared for my period to jump at me in class. Mine last about 5 days then comes again within about 22...when I was younger though it varied a little sometimes 18 other times 26.
good luck.keep pain killers too - my first day is a real kick in the bum.
