Mamogram, when do we need it?
When is the time women should be getting those. I've tried to get mine, (I am over 30), and my doctor keeps telling me I'm too young andthat becasue my mother and sister don't have breast cancer, I'm not a good candidate for doing it early. He also, said that I could do more harm than good if I get it checked when I don't need to.
Answers:
age 40 is when you should get your first. if you had had a history of breast cancer in your family (mothers, sisters or aunts with breast cancer), you should have had one around age 30..but without a history of it in the family, do it at age 40, and then i think every other year until age 50, then you should go once a year as yoru risk of getting cancer increases with age. of course, if you ever feel a lump that is not normal you should get one done immediately.
I heard People need it everyday.
I believe any time after 35 is the right time, that is if breast cancer dosen't run in the family.
You should listen to your doctor.
Unless you have a family history OR you or your doc find a suspicious lump, you do NOT need to expose yourself to unnecessary radiation.
A woman with a family history of breast cancer should get a baseline mammogram at the age of 35 and then again at 40, then every year after. If there's no history and you manually don't find any abnormalities, then you should not get one before the age of 40, then annually thereafter.
Finally, you probably are NOT a good candidate if you have never had a child and you are not over 40 because the mass of your breast matter is usually too dense for the x-rays to penetrate properly (and a small lump wouldn't be seen anyway) - so it would be a waste of time and money.and they ARE uncomfortable - believe me!
