No period, not pregnant?

I only bleed if I have vaginal penetration, and only for a day or so. I haven't had a period since October of 05. I am not pregnant. I asked a doc what might cause it, last time I went to the hospital, and he wasn't sure what was going on but did a pregnancy test. I started my period when I was 8 now I'm 24. Could I have stopped ovulating or something? I've looked all over online and haven't really found anything that fits so any ideas?

Answers:
It is called Amenorrhea.

It's possible you have secondary amenorrhea it is the absence of menstrual periods for 6 months in a woman who had previously been regular, or for 12 months in a woman who had irregular periods.

This problem is seen in about 1% of women of reproductive age.

Also, are you underweight and very athletic?
Thats strange.Missing a period or two is normal but for so long.U should get a proper checkup done by some good doctor who'll do an ultrasound to know what is going inside.
My mom told me that my grandmother's periods stopped at 30.
Nobody except a good doctor can give you a satisfactory answer because it will be based on your internal examination and tests.
It can happen if you are underweight. The body prevents itself from getting pregnant if it knows that the body cannot nutritionally support a growing baby. If this is the case, and it is due to you not eating enough, you may have an eating disorder.
Stress, diet, illness anything. If you are not having a period, that doesn't mean that you are not ovulating. YOu can still get pregnant so be safe!
