Hypothyroid medication question..plz help.?

Hello all…
Ok I have a thyroid problem (hypothyroid )and I started taking my medication last Saturday ,I am taking .05 mg levothyroxine,I always have extreme difficulty losing weight… I have been on strict diet and exercise past 5-6 mt and managed to loose 10 lbs,but since last week after starting on my medication I have gained 2-3 pounds without any reason, I am still following my diet and exercise regime…
Has anyone faced anything like this, is it due to medication and I should not worry too much and follow my routine…
Help plz…

Hello I am a dietetics and med student. Please take this as an opinion only and not as medical advice as I am not an RD or MD yet. Levothyroxine is notorious for making people gain weight. Most of the time it is simply water weight that has been gained. This is the lesser of two evils. Water weight can be easily managed. Eating a high fiber diet helps tremendously in controlling weight loss. It also keeps you fuller longer. Fiber is extremely important to the GI tract especially the colon. It greatly reduces the risks of developing any type of GI cancer and diverticulitis, a very painful condition. It is also a key factor in reducing LDL (bad cholesterol). I recommend consulting your doctor and a dietitian. Dietitian can coordinate meal plans that are perfect for you and you'll be able to maintain your weight. Hope this helps and good luck!
I am currently taking 20mg of Levy and have been for approx. 6 mths. I had overactive and now am underactive I also put weight on which was hard to accept when I lost 3.5 stone in 3 months from 12.5 to 9 and looked like a skeleton. I am now 12 stone and dont no precisely how much I put on in what timescale, i do no i have gained weight so I would say do not stress I also eat sensibly I think all we can do is tone what we got and be happy and accept part and parcel Hope i've helped any other q's with thyroid i'll help as much as poss.
