What is the cut off age for a woman to have a safe pregnancy and birth?

A number of years ago age was a factor. Under the age of 30 was a suitable and safe age for pregnancy.

Answers:
There is no cutoff as to when a woman can conceive and give birth. The only cutoff would be menopause. The risk is for the fetus and usually not the mother. The chance of congenital defects increases with the mother's age. A 35 year old woman has a 1 in 250 chance of giving birth to an infant with congenital defect (a.k.a Down's Syndrome or mental retardation). And the risk increases exponential after 35 years of age. I have seen 14 year old mothers and 50 year old mothers. The greatest concern for mothers is availability of good health care and good nutrient, which shouldn't be a problem in the US.

under the age of 40
I think the magic age now is around 35-38. Supposedly, your risks increase after age 35.
women in their 60s have done it, safe, i dont think there is a specific limit, it has a lot to do with ones health and condition.
There are many women.( I know a few personally) that are having babies over the age of 40. If you are healthly and under a doctors care there is no reason not to have a baby. I'm sure there is a reasonable age cut off. One of my best friend's is pregnant at the age of 44. My 4th child was born when I was 37. I am now 41.we may be planning one more. :)

Live Again~yahoo group for women! :)
most doctors recomend that woman and men shouldnt have children over the age of 35, but you should really stop at 31!!
its a huge risk your child will come out with a disorder
