BV? Anyone taken ??metronidazole?

Ok so i have been to the GP, and they dont no what the discharge is either!! They have suggested it might be BV(bacterial vaginosis ) and given me metronidazole tablets 400 mg ,twice a day, but there are 56 tablets in the pot, Is it safe to take these tablets for 28 days?? Considering the GP doesnt actually no what my problem is?

I've taken it many times. It is an antibiotic. I have Crohn's Disease and was put on high doses of this following surgery and have been on and off it at different times over the years. This is used for many different types of infections and such from the pelvic area, the intestinal region, and even the brain. The only side effect that I had was a metallic taste in my mouth. But that was it. So not to worry, your doctor is doing right.

You should ask your local pharmacist. to be on the safe side..
BV is totally normal. I didnt take meds that long, he gave me a cream that you apply 1 time only. But sometimes that doesnt clear it up,you need pill for about 5 days. I forget what its called. Try: azithromycin. Thatll clear it right up. Bv is cause by h pylori & e coli. You can get it from soaps, toilet seats, bubble baths.some women are just get them more then others. Also, it could be bacteria in your lower intestine!
I would try the recommended dosage for a week, and if it doesn't clear up, then I'd move on to something else. Remember not to drink anything containing alcohol for the duration of the treatment, though.
Flagyl taken for 28 days is a relatively long time. Reccommended treatment time is 7 - 10 days. The normal dose is usually 250 -500 mgs twice a day. I didn't know they came in 400's..maybe your doctor was thinking of another medication for you, although BV is treated with Flagyl. You may want to double check with you prescribing physician again regarding this medication..
If you are unhappy with the diagnosis from the GP you could always go your local GUM (Genito urinary medicine) clinic for a second opinion. The clinics are usually in all major hospitals.
YES IT IS OK, ACTUALLY ONE OF THE INDICATIONS FOR FLAGYL IS BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS, IT'S ALSO USED FOR CLAMYDIA, TRICKOMINIOSIS, AND PELVIC INFLAMITORY DISEASE. YOUR FINE JUST MAKE SURE YOU FINISH ALL THE PILLS AS PRESCRIBED. I'M A NURSE BY THE WAY.
My husband had an infection and was given metronidazole. He then ended up with a terrible pain in his kidney area a few days into the medication. He had to go to the ER, and they didn't find anything wrong with him, but his symptoms went away when he decided to stop taking that medication. It's probably different for each person, but you might want to ask your doc to prescribe something milder.
that is normally prescribed for trichinosis or severe yeast infections. It also comes in a gel that can be inserted into the female area. get a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the diagnosis! Good Luck!
Most probably you are suffering from Trchomoniasis Vaginalis. So Metronidozole is prescribed. So you can take 2 g as a single dose for seven days or 800 mg in the morning and 1.2 g in the evening for 2 days depending on the severity.
Please check with your pharmacist. If you stop taking your antibiotic before it has completed the course, you can become resistant to the antibiotic. The antibiotic can knock out the infection, but not totally destroy it. The bacteria then regrow and do not respond to the antibiotic anymore. This could have serious consequences for you in the future if you need antibiotics for a serious condition. So please check with your pharmacist.
Get a second opinion.I once had BV and treated it with a pill for one day and also got my partner treated just in case. That was about 2 years ago though

28days is a long time to be taking metronidazole
Im taking them right now, but ive been drinking a lot on them and apparently thats bad. Has helped my discharge a bit although it got worse before it got better. Check with the doctor again, its an antibiotic, I dont think 28 days is wise!
