I am sleepy all the time lately. Why?

For the past couple of weeks I have been getting tired too quickly. I am up for 5 hours and get sleepy again. I lay down to take a nap and sleep another 8 hours! Then get up again just to get tired 5 hours or so later. On average I have been sleeping 16 hours a day. I can't function like this.

I otherwise feel very healthy. I try to exercise more and drinking more water. It doesn't help. I tried red ginsing too.

I don't know, but when you find the answer, send it to me! I have the same problem.
u might be very tired..or u try to drink thing the gv u enegry to continue ur job..or else u try to do stg interesting to avoid sleeping like swimming or play outdoor game
See the doctor for some test. Maybe quit smoking the wackie backie.
If your a girl you could be pregnant!
Thyroid problem? Depression? Anemia? Sleeping sickness Could be all kinds of things. Have you seen a doctor, dear?
lack of patassium, and other nutrients.Apples, oranges, even vitamins. Or just too much stress on the brain.
Are you depressed?? Figure out what you want in life, how to get there, and take the steps. Living out your wishes will always make you more energetic and eager to wake up every day.
Be very careful that you do not drive under these conditions, you could even fall asleep unexpectedly. I should know, it happened to me the first day of many months of feeling totatlly tired. It turned out my thyroid gland was not producing enough hormones and the problem had an easy solution. I just have to take a pill a day and I'm feeling quite rested now. I ws very surprised to have this because the year before I had three physical exams, yes three (one my routine chekup, another by the life insurance company, and a third one required by an adoption agency) and I was in super great health by all three test. Then 9 months later I had hypothyrodism!
You could also have a hidden infection and a blood test could tell, or you could have a sleeping disorder, or chronic fatigue syndrom. I know exactly how you feel. You need to get to the doctors.
Have your blood checked, you can be anemic.
Bad sleeping habits (typically too few of them) can be to blame. As can bad eating habits, stress, and anemia, as well as the pregnancy answer already given. My best suggestion is that you go to your doctor, explain the problem and suggest getting a blood test. (Testing for anemia is simple. Only takes a drop of blood)

Best thing is, if it's one of the 'easy' problems, adjust your life to remove them. If it's pregnancy, you probably would've wanted to know anyway, and if it's anemia, all you'll need to do is take iron pills for a couple weeks to be back to normal.
eat more fruits and vegetable, eat cereal or some sugar in the morning, try oatmeal in the morning. it could also be that you sleep late so your body tries to make up the hours and overcompensates. its doesnt matter how much water u drink and how much u excercise, its about what ur eating.
see the doctor
Wowww!! That is a lot of sleeping. Ok first thing to check and who am I to say if you are drinking any kind of diet soft drinks. or anything with aspartame or Splenda or other artificial sweetener. But if you are, Honey that will definitely make you tired! Plus it will ruin your health and make u depressed.
If you can rule that out, then you should get checked for anemia or low red blood cell count. For this they would prescribe iron supplement. Maybe you are under a lot of stress or if you are depressed about something, that will make you tired. Lymes disease will make you tired..if you also have joint pain u should get checked for Lymes disease because joint pain is a symptom of that. About 2 months ago I was feeling like this and my mom took me to the doc. It was anemia and I am taking iron supplements and I feel much better. It won't kill ya to just get a checkup so they can see whats really going on! It's probably something that can be fixed really simply!
Pay very close attention: forget the pills, the naps, the ginsing and the change in diet. You may be suffering from a serious sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea, primary snoring, PLMD (Periodic Leg Movement Disorder) or Narcolepsy. The ONLY way to find out is to have a Polysomnogram, or "sleep test" performed. Your doctor can refer you to a sleep specialist for a consult. I manage a Sleep Disorders Center and we diagnose and treat THOUSANDS of people every year, young and old, who have sleep problems. You cannot fix the problem until you know what the problem is, and a sleep test is the only way to do this.
