Who do you contact if you know there is abuse in a group home for the mentally retarded and handicapped?
I recently resigned from a group home that is abusing their clients. The clients are profoundly mentally retarded and mentally handicapped. The company that operated these homes never follow-up on change of health reports, behavior reports, and employee concerns. The DAP is unprofessional and lazy! She never comes to the homes to check up on everyone and she also says she's an RN. There is one girl in particular that is being abused. She is not sexually abused but neglected by all that work there. She was diagnosed with bacterial menegitis when she was six months old, profoundly mentally retarded,non-verbal, has seizures almost everyday, and needs care constantly. Please help me to stop this abuse. I want to sleep at night again. There have been nasty things said about this individual and there have been things done to this individual that would make you sick.

I am a manager of a group home. You are required by law to report any form of abuse and neglect that you see occuring in the group home. It usually does littel good to contact the police because they seldom follow up on situations involving persons with MR. Most likely they will just refer either to the service coordinator, director, or group home manager.
Does the place you work have a director whom you could call? If you aren't comfortable talking to the director, you should contact the service coordinator. He/She is the person who works for a regional center and is not part of the company you work for. You also have the option of calling the abuse/neglect hotline. This number will be monitored by the state and directed to the appropriate officials. I know it can be scary, especially if you are turning in a supervisor, but it is important that you leave a name and phone number of where you can be reached so further investigation can be made. YOu will also need dates, times, any witnesses, etc. of what you saw happen. Here is a telephone number for the abuse/neglect hotline 1 800-392-0210.
You should also take into consideration that most states give you only 24 hours to report abuse/neglect. There is the slight chance that you may be investigated for waiting until after you quit before turning the abuse/neglect in.

you could call the police or you could take an adult there and let the adult handle it once they see whats happening
Call the police and report it. Call local news stations, most have investigative reporters that love this kind of stuff. Be prepared though, you will be painted as nothing more than a disgruntled ex-employee. Good Luck, carry on the good fight.
human resources
i think you should do what is right.you are a caring personand you wont br able to rest if u dont.there are too many people in the caring profession who are in it for the wrong reasons.the female in question depends on her carers.its your duty as a care and a responsible human being to protect and save her from these people.the fact that you asked this question says u want to do something about it.go to social services or in fact the police.do it today.anoher day could lead to a tragedy.good luck and god bless.xx
Call Social Services, the Police, or any government agency that will listen. This abuse must stop!
I would contact the police, Social Services and your local chapter of ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens). I applaud you for wanting to help these people. The abusers should be arrested.there is no excuse for this. Profoundly disabled or not, they are human beings and deserve respect and good care. God bless you for coming to their rescue. And PLEASE.be persistent.if any agency gives you the runaround, demand to speak to supervisors!
