What's causing this ear problem?

I lost a lot of weight a few years ago, and ever since then I sometimes have a problem with my ears. It's like I can hear my own voice amplified through my ears from the inside, and it makes it hard for me to speak clearly because it's so loud in my ears. I can even hear my breathing through my ears.

Eating something usually helps. I'm not as small as I was when I lost the weight (had a baby since then!) and I'm not losing weight - I'm staying around the same.

I've never heard of anyone else having this, so if you have any idea what this is PLEASE let me know. I know I could go to a doctor but I don't think it's serious and a doctor probably couldn't fix it anyway. It's just very annoying!

Your Eustachian tube is blocked. The et tube goes from the back of your nose to your ear. When it's blocked and can't open it will make it sound like you are in a barrel. When your Eustachian tube opens(like when you yawn or when you eat) it lets a small out of O2 in there and lets fluid out. You could use afrin but only for 3 to 4 days. Afrin is addictive and if you use it alot you could get a rebound effect and then you're in trouble. You can develop allergies at any time and I'll bet that's what you've got. Is your nose stuffy? Call an Ear Nose and Throat doc, they can give you a nose spray that will work and won't be addictive.

I would say it doesn't have anything to do with you loosing wait but I would defiantly have it checked out by a Dr.
its either something in your eardrum or innner ear canal. you should see you doctor because he can prescribe ear drops to fix your problem. it has nothing to do with the weight you lost or having a child
You "sometimes" have this problem? The echoing could be fluid in your ear which can be caused by a lot of different things. Could it be related to colds/allergies? Perhaps an allergy to a type of food that you only eat once in a while or something that is blooming only once in a while?
If its fluid in your ear caused by an allergy a decongestant might help, as well as taking a Benydryl (which will help with an allergic reaction but can cause drowsiness) to see if that helps the problem.
Do you swim? Or wash your hair in the bathtub? Could your ear be filling with water and then not draining immediately so that you have the echoing for a while?
Just some thoughts. A doctor will be able to look inside your ear and evaluate the condition of your hearing apparatus as well as its general health. It would probably help the most if you went to the Doctor during one of the problem episodes. Better to get it taken care of now so that if there is a more serious problem you can have it taken care of NOW instead of later, especially since it bothers you so much.
Good luck!
My thoughts are amplified in my head at times also. I never had that problem before my weight dropped and I was found to have Hyperthyroidism. It didn't start until after my thyroid was radiated and I was put on medication. Now I an Hypo and my weight is way up. Some years before my weight dropped though it felt like I had a Mac truck setting on my chest and any loud sound scattered my thoughts.

I just stop thinking for a spell and the amplification would stop for a long time and it may be days before it happens again. Mine isn't bad.
The same thing happens to me sometimes! Mostly when there has been a change in altitude or when the barometric pressure has shifted. Mostly I think the weather is to blame.
