How do I know if a bite mark is infected?
What I'm wondering is what do I do about it? It seems a little silly to go to the doctor over a bite mark from a baby, but I've also heard that human mouths are basically filthy. I've put plenty of antibacterial cream on it but I don't know if that's helped or not.
I'd really appreciate any help I could get.
Thank you!!

If it is red and swollen I think you are right to think it is infected. The human mouth is very dirty. I would not think it is silly to go to the Dr. it could be nothing but it is better to know than to sit around wondering.
I would go most especially if it has red lines going away from the site(a serious sign of blood poisoning) or the mark is getting Bigger. At a week it should be drying up and getting smaller.
Lol...it's probably fine. Human mouths ARE filthy but I highly doubt that you will contract a serious infection. As long as you keep it clean, it should heal soon without any problems. Start getting worried when it swells and becomes painful, although I doubt it will.
FIRST, seek Professional Medical Help, from a doctor or a clinic!
Any such bite marks, should be Cleaned with Hydrogen Peroxide, from your local Pharmacy or WalMart.
Some NeoSporin should then be applied and covered with a band aid. It should be checked DAILY!
DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD BITE YOU AGAIN!
Thanks, RR
have you put peroxide in the wound and see if it bubbles that is a sign that it is infected, but don't worry cleans it also better than just using the antibacterilal ointment put the ointment on after you peroxideit. This should help and do thisa couple of times a day.
If he bit you last week and the bite site is still swollen and red you might want to get it checked out. Is it oozing anything? Are there any lines leading away from it under the skin? If so I'd get it checked out.
You could try soaking in a salt water solution two or three times per day to see if that helps take down the swelling. You could also check out the website www.emofree.com just in case there's an emotional component to the injury. Sounds weird but it works! You have to get that little guy a SAFE teething ring. He's going to be growing more teeth!
