Is chewing tobacco a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes?

I have tried to quit smoking in the past, and found that I have a lot of problems with cravings. I have tried all the solutions, but have found in the last days, that chewing tobacco is very effective in controlling my cravings for nicotene. Is chewing tobacco a good alternative even in the short term to smoking?

Answers:
no, it's just as habit forming b/c it's the same drug. You can get nastier kinds of cancer (mouth, tongue, jaw), lose teeth, not to mention the nasty stains are worse. You need to just quit. Ask someone who's quit before to help you with craving issues.

Chocolate is good, let it dissolve slowly (one small square) on your tongue, you get similar but not as addictive stimulation, and if you only do this once in a while you won't get fat. Caffeine (black coffee) can provide similar stimulation and while it is habit forming, it is not damaging according to current research. A slow dose over time is all you need, because caffeine doesn't stay in your body for long.

Going for a brisk walk can also curb some cravings, and instead of just sitting or standing there, you're benefitting your cardiovascular system.

no youll get mouth cancer, try the patch or cold turkey
Oh hell no. Ever heard of oral cancer? Go for the patch
i have no right telling you how to live your life, but they both rot your teeth, that something people use to damn much, you will only get cancer if you have the cancer gene in your heridity,i know several people who smoked up until there upper 80's and never had cancer
There is no safe level of tobacco use, (think about that).
Chewing Tobacco Yes !

But remember Youl Pretty Much Mhave To Carry Around Your Own Spitoon.
Do you pefer caner or emphysema? I smoked as a teenager and have not had a cigarette for almost 25 years. But I have advancing emphysema and it sucks big time not to be able to breathe.
No it's nasety and you could get mouth cancer just try the stop smoking patches or something like that maybe
I don't think so. The concentration in the tobacco is stronger as it sits in your lip. Try one of the patches and Dr.s are also prescribing drugs to help you through it.
if you want mouth cancer, just try give up all that garbage.
NO! Not at all. Instead of just losing a lung to cancer and having bad skin and smelling really bad (with smoking). would you like to lose your tongue, your jaw, half your face, perhaps? (Besides, it's really, really gross.)
no, its just as bad. Chewing tobacco causes mouth cancer just as nicotine causes lung cancer
For sure, it will help you kick the smoking part of the habit. But the prob is even short term your addicted to nicotene not inhalation. There are still health risks with chewing including mouth cancer which is absolutely hot.
NO!! My mom's a dentist, and she has seen literally hundreds of cases of mouth cancer from dipping skoal or chewing tobacco. People try this when they quit smoking, and it works because you are still getting the nicotine into your system--moreso, in fact. If you can chew just every once in a while to wean yourself off, it might work, but most people become very addicted to the tobacco/skoal. You should really try the patch or something else. Believe me, you don't want mouth cancer. You should look up some images on the web to see what it can do to your mouth. Yuck.
Simple and plain, NO.

Chewing Tabbacco causes gum diseases and could lead to getting infections within your mouth (yuck), where as smoking ciggerets will give you cancer withing your lungs.

So basically, abstain from all reffereses of tabbacco.
Look up a fella named "Rick Bender".He had been using chewing tobacco until cancer took over his face. he now has half of a jaw. There is no safe alternative to cigarettes.
Chewing tobacco causes cancer (of mouth, throat, etc.) much more rapidly, and more painfully, than smoking.

You really need to consult a public health clinic about ways to stop. The whole point of tobacco is a nicotine release mechanism -- and patches, gum, etc. do the same thing. The rest is psychology.
DEFINETLY NOT...IT JUST LEADS TO OTHER CANCER RISKS. DO NOT TAKE CANCER RISKS LIGHTLY
TOBACCO HAS NO "SAFE" ALTERNATIVE
Either way it goes, you can still get cancer.
no tobacco is healthy man..strong will power is needed. if you still have problems quiting try homeopathy
find a homeopathic doctor
they are both no good. you should not use either one. nasty, you can get mouth cancer, but you can get cancer from smoking cigarettes.
any kind of tobacco is bad either smoking or chewing.but chewing tobacco can be worst of for you. for example: from smoking cigarette (which contain tobacco) you can get throat cancer, lung cancer.
from chewing tobacco, you can get lip cancer, tongue cancer, gum cancer, throat cancer.
plus the tasty smell in your mouth, your teeth stain much faster by chewing tobacco,
plus you need to have a cup or garabe bag near by the spit it out.

wear the patch, get the gum, but dont switch from one kind of tobacco to the next, it does not solved the problem, just makes it worst.
No, of course not. I hate to break it to you, but Chewing tobacco is just as bad/ mayber even worse than smoking, as chewing tobacco can cause cancer of the mouth, and can cause tooth decay. I would try to use Cigarette quitting programs to quit smoking.

Trust me. You will be much better off quitting altogether.
Hope this helps :)
Keep hope alive :)
I prefer to smoke

see why
No!

You will have a high risk of mouth, tongue, throat, stomach cancer.

I have seen patient having their jaw removed, it is not pretty.

And your are still consumming nicotine, so you still have the addiction.
Actually, chewing tobacco is worse than smoking. You would be better off with nicotine gum as it does not contain the carcenagines that are found in chewing tobacco.
You stand a far higher chance of getting cancer of the gum from chewing than you do of getting lung cancer from smoking! Both uses almost guarantee you cancer of the bladder if your lungs or gums (or a heart attack) don't do you in first.

Your doctor can prescribe nicotine/nicotine substitute gum or "wads" that will help you "ween" yourself off the drug, & I would encourage you to follow that path if you would like to live.

Cancer is often survivable, but trust me, it sucks!
NO. You are still getting nicotene.. I quit in 98 with the patch. It does work. I decided I would not cheat myself and wore it for the entire 10 weeks and did all the steps.. The first 6 weeks I had no cravings and that was the time to quit the habits. ie - reaching for a cigarette after eating - getting into the car and automatically cracking the window.. I was a 2 pack a day smoker and I never thought I would really be able to quit. I never admitted to being a non-smoker until I had quit for 8 months. WOW, now it has been 8 years.. Thanks for letting me pat myself on the back again...
it can cause mouth or gum cancer. dude, just face it, tabacco is bad in anyform. try comit lozenes. they seem to work for my mom who is trying to quit. anyway, there is nothing nastier than a guy with a big wad in his mouth with a cup in his had full over brown bile.
i used the patch and the gum. the gum tastes like sh*t but it works. here's why. my brother is much older than i and i remember watching him battle with the smoking for a long time. trying to quit by chewing, i'll tell you that he told me that it was much harder to quit chewing than smoking. now he hasn't smoked in about seven years but he still chews the gum. i asked him about it and he said he likes the nicotene so he chews the gum. but he hasn't touched any tobacco in that seven years. and so now i still chew the gum and it's been about a year for me. i tried not chewing it but i started getting fat in a hurry. for me it's a happy medium. try it and see. after a while you'll get used to it. and besides, if you go on an airplane, chances are that you'll be the only content nicotine addict on the plane. that's how it is for me anyway. hope it helps.
no, chewing tobacco is just as unhealthy as cigarettes, chewing can cause MOUTH cancer
