I just got my tongue pierced...?

about 2 hours ago. I was just wondering what other people did to reduce the pain..About an hour after I got it done I gargled with salt water (made for tongue piercing), took 800mg Motrin (prescription strength), and two 8 hour Tylenol. I am feeling NO PAIN right now..but this is the second time that I have gotten this done and I remember the first night being HELL. I didn't sleep a wink that night and I really don't want to go through that again..any suggestions?

NO LECTURES! I am 25 years old and I truly do not need anyone’s 'holier than thou' attitude..If you don't like the idea of body piercing then don't answer this question..

.wanna go out?

COOL! my husband wants me to get a tounge piercing, I'm scurred '~' !
But I don't know. just wanted to comment. :-P
suck on ice as long as you can stand it .that will reduce swelling and numb your tongue
if it was me id take a bottles of vodka to bed with me. and drink away the pain. fair play for getttin it done tho. i wana but im too scared.
How 'bout take it out since tongue piercing hasn't been in style for over 6 years.
I don't remember ever feeling like that when i got my tongue pierced, i did not even take that much meds. I think you should be okay, if not try taking something with pm in it so you can sleep oh and i bought a slush it might help if you can't suck on ice
Stay away from too much meds. Trust me it's not good to take too much. I personally wouldn't do the ice thing. I tried it and I wanted to have mine ripped out it hurt so bad. Just take it easy and not to take meds unless absolutely nessasary. Best wishes.
Eat a lot of ice for like 3 hours stright and you should be stright.
Oh no! It's a bit late to be asking now.
There's not much you can do if you've already taken tablets and now even if someone suggests a better pill or something you probably can't take it since the other drugs are already in your system

Lots of things can make your pain worse (or feel worse) so that doesn't mean to say it's going to be the same this time around.

All I can suggest is to try and time it so that you are already asleep for the time you fear it's going to be most painful.
clean your tonuge like every 15 minutes
that'll prevent bacteria from going there
get mouthwash that kills germs
you should come on AnyQA.coms more often when you can't sleep because of the pain, that'll take your mind off from it
Do you already regret it. I think it looks tacky as hell. Unattractive. Do you really need it to impress someone. It has the opposite effect on me. Sorry.
OW. It hurt when I got my ears pierced I just can't imagine doing that - twice - where there are so many nerve endings.

Can someone call the place you had it done and ask them for advice? I think both the ice and salt water gargle sound like good ideas.

Is Motrin ibuprophen? If so, that should help reduce swelling as well.

If worse comes to worse you could try something like Tylenol PM to help you sleep.
When I got my tongue pierced I would take ice cubs (the kind you get from a soda machine) and suck on them. I also would use Listerine to numb my tongue. Which will also reduce chance of infection.

You could also smoke weed, that will help.
have you tried ice? if not try to cope with the problem.. if you like it so much you will make it..
i pierced the upper side of my ear and it hurt so bad that i couldn't sleep for 2 days..i didn't give up thought. now i think i would have regretted it if i had taken the earring off.
i. Put a cast and sling on it.
2. Kiss it and 'make it better'.
3. Have your mother kiss it and 'make it better'.
4. Buy it lingerie - usually works for my girlfriend.
5. Take it out for a walk in the fresh air and sun.
6. A 'band aid'?
7. Maybe it doesn't like itself - get it some therapy.
Well first of all, you're feeling no pain right now partially because your body is in shock..you don't start feeling it until later..sorry. But anyways the ice sounds like a good idea (EXCEPT THAT IT MAKES METAL SOOO MUCH COLDER) for while you're awake instead of so much pain killers. Although it's too late for that. but unless you time it right it might be difficult to take pain killers at the right time so that it eases your sleep.

Pain killers WITH sleep aids may help but be careful not too take too much of any pain killer before going to bed because you can get very odd psychological side affects. (Bad/weird dreams, waking up in the middle of night with hunger, thirst, upset stomach,..liver damage... etc. it's just a bad idea to take too many..

ANYWAYS I'm sure you know to take care of it properly seeing as you have past experience and although you're going to want to take more than the recommended level of pain relievers for oh say..a headache. Just be careful in taking too much. =)
OK when i first go mines pierced i was scared. It really didn't hurt that much. I didn't take any kind of meds. All i did was suck on a lot of ICE. I know exactly what u are saying about the first night because i woke up in the middle of the night wanting to snatch it clean out of my mouth. It wasn't because of the pain, it was the swelling that i couldn't handle. They tell u 2 try not to talk alot, don't smoke, gargle with antiseptic mouth wash, don't suck on a straw, eat soft foods (but stay within a healthy diet) and suck lots of ice. Try to slow down on the meds and try to stay within those instructions. If the pain continues or gets worse than just get it taken out. Maybe your body is just refusing your tongue piercing.
(its not the same for everyone) I am 28 and i just got mines done the beginning of this year. I was to scared that it was going to hurt. But it healed pretty fast. Good luck and I hope i helped you out a little bit!
