Because they are depressed. No one WANTS to be heavy. You could be a little kinder.
It is primarily a western cultural issue. We see skinny people in magazines and on TV all the time. They are presented to us as beautiful people. This was not the case in the 20's and 30's. Back then, women were beautiful if they where a bit more voluptuous.

To answer your question, I guess fat ppl feel sorry cuz they think they are ugly and not wanted from others and sometimes they can not do all the stuff that healthy skinny ppl do, like sports in general.
