Is there anything I can do about it?

I had surgery to remove my ingrown toenails on both of my big toes. But ever since the nails just grow over themselves creating a thick nail. Every so often one layer will start to break of taking other layers with it. Now my nail is really short. Is there anything that can be done to grow the nail back?
Please help. Thanks. WinterSoul3

It sounds like the growth plates of the nails have been damaged by the surgery. If this is the case it may be permanent. Get your GP to look at them. If this is the case there is little you can do about it and the only other option might then be nail bed ablation(destruction with phenol). If the cosmetic effect of this was poor false toe nails are available.
Bless you - you poor thing. Unless you've experienced this you really don't know about pain do you? I've had both big toes done - one twice as it was messed up the first time around. Could you go to your Dr and ask about getting the nails removed completely and that would solve the problem? Good luck.
You need to see the doc. Sounds like you might have a fungus that needs treating.
Hello,
See the doctor again, he should know how to follow up.

Hi I had both my toenails removed. I never knew at the time that other things were causing this with my toes. I would get like a fungus overgrowth which would split my nails. I am in the process of going to Novia Scotia clinic. Its an enviromental clinic for multiple chemical allergies. I have been off work a year and most of the time sick. If I were you I would get this checked out. You could have an overgrowth of yeast in your system that is causing this.
Sounds like a vitimin deficiency if they're flaking My uncle had his removed and has had trouble ever since.
until it gets sorted i would get some faulse nails, they do a good range for toe nails now. you could try just painting them 2
It sounds like you have a fungal infection going on! Get yerself back to the GP and see if he agrees with us lot here! Toenail infections are readily treatable with some creams / lotions. It clears up such problems usually within 2 weeks!

Tread lightly my friend and get treated.
