What happens when you do not sleep?

experience prefered, since people seem to have pretty bias opinions on this for no reason at all, usually acting like they KNOW what will happen

I just know what has happened with me. Your body gets weak, more prone to illnesses. Your thoughts become incoherent. You can't concentrate. You can become depressed. You may act similar to a drunk person and should not drive. It's just all around bad for you and you can feel it. I know when I don't sleep, I just really feel bad all the time. I'm curious, why would you not be sleeping? Is it insomnia or by choice? I have insomnia and can't bring myself to visit the doctor. Right now it's 4am and I am on these boards instead of sleeping. I know our body needs rest to rebuild and repair itself, but I also know that sometimes we have problems letting our body shut down and get that rest.
at one point you will eventually have to sleep or fall asleep, but i guess if you didn't do that, you would die
In my experience - I have gone with 3 days without sleep at some points. I do this regularly because of study committments and working full time.

But thats the choice I make. In this period I actually was more hypo and did my work more effectively - at least that's what I thought...and I haven't been told differently. And when I finally did go to sleep - it only lasted 4-6 hours.

I guess in the medical opinion it would be to get sleep, rest because if you don't ..you lack concentration...blah blah...but i found this quite opposite..but mind you I;ve been doing this since I was in college (high school - if you based in US)
I didn't sleep for three days and no I don't do drugs. The first day, I was tired. The second day, I felt my adrenalin kick in, the so called second wind. I felt hyperalert. The third day, I was able to drive from San Francisco to my home in the Valley which is about two hours. I felt like I was outside my body and only observing what I was doing. Needless to say, I passed out on the fourth day and I didn't wake up except to use the bathroom. I was asleep for two whole days.
There have been studies done (with Uni students as test dummies) which show that after 17 - 19 hours awake you have the symptoms that are the equivalent of having an 0.5 blood alcohol level (which is the legal maximum to drive in Australia).

The study showed that getting less than 6 hours a night can affect coordination, reaction time and judgment, they said, posing "a very serious risk."
They come her and look despretly for GUYS to date them. I suppose you did not sleep yesterday!
Sometimes I don't sleep for a whole day straight... my brain hurts my eyes get so heavy, my vision twirls a bit, and sometimes I get hyper, then other times I get drowsy.

.
Hello i am actually on my third day without sleep .. i feel really swollen and my stomach is upset and i keep daydreaming about stupid things. I feel surprisingly awake though .. after the first day you get over being tired and start just being weird. everything is super bright, I stopped drinking coffee on the second day because it was making me shaky and made me grind my teeth. So if you are planning on pulling a couple all dayers try to limit the caffeine, its kind of counter productive. I don't recommend pulling all nighters but you get used to it after a while
