Anyone know anything about getting your tonsils out?
Thankyou!

I am an operating room RN in Australia.
You are admitted to the hospital on the morning of surgery.
You go into the operating room, the anaesthetist will put a drip into your hand or arm - hop up onto the operating table. The connect you to monitors for your heart, blood pressure and pulse/oxygen. You are covered with blankets to keep warm. They will put and oxygen mask over your face and ask you breathe deeply. As they are doing this they will put some medicine in your drip and you will go off the sleep.
The anaesthetist will put a breathing tube in to help you breath. The surgeon will slowly and carefully cut your tonsils out making sure any blood vessels are not left bleeding.
You will be given a variety of pain killers in your drip just before you wake up to help you be more comfortable.
You will wake up and the breathing tube is removed.
An oxygen mask will be over your face.
You will be groggy. You will be wheeled in bed to the recovery room where the nurses will look after you - give you more painkillers if needed. You will often have a little bloody drool.
When you are comfortable, breathing well and ok you will go to the ward.
Where I work you will stay overnight.
It is not highly painful from what I have seen but it is uncomfortable.
I would also look at seeing a allergy specialist as it sounds like you have an allergy if your throat is swelling when eating certain foods.
Hope this helps.
PS..those crypt thingys are yukky huh
Daughter just had it done...its outpatient surgery nowdays. They do need to put you completely under for the procedure. As fare as how long to wait, that would depend on the dr and facillity availability. Cost would vary depending on locale.
You should get operated. and if they are of early stage then u shall better get rid of them NOW as they can cause u more pain and trouble if they grow. Homeopatheic could hellp in this regard but tthat would'ne be a permanent relief. :)
