Panic Attacks and Paxil?

I have been on paxil for almost 4 years and I am weaning off of it. I was put on it for panic attacks. Is there anyone else out there who is doing this too? I want to be drug free and handle my anxiety and panic attacks naturally.

Answers:
If the only way is a prescribtion drug you have to stay on it. You can try and controll that but if you can't you have to take Paxil.
i hope one day i will be off paxil also, good luck
You don't say whether you've had any psychotherapy to go with the medications. Usually, the most effective approach to treating anxiety disorders is with both medications and therapy. The meds help to calm your anxiety to a point that you can really try the methods that the therapist can teach you to help you deal with anxiety and panic attacks. Then, as you gradually go off the medication, you are better able to use the new tools that you have learned in therapy against the feelings and thoughts of anxiety.

If you haven't been working with a therapist during the time that you have been on medications, you should really give it a try, and then gradually, under you psych MD's direction, go off your meds. If you have done good strong work in therapy, you will have the tools to use to work through the thoughts and feelings that you may have associated with anxiety. It is very possible to overcome an anxiety disorder with good strong treatment and the willingness to try and to get better. Good luck with it--you will probably be very successful if you have good therapy tools to work with.
Hello Queen.Panic attacks are caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters. It is very difficult to correct this imbalance "naturally". My advice is to find the right medicine for you, take it for a period of time and then diminish it slowly. Then you will be able to handle your panic attacks naturally. As a former panic attack sufferer I tell you that the best you can do to prevent panic attacks is not being afraid of them. Panic attacks last a while, if you are afraid of them you will get another one, if you are not it will last a while and go. You could also try yoga (is excellent for breathing techniques) and acupuncture. Keep on fighting, after a period of time the panic attacks will be gone (if it happened to me it can happen to you!)
