Is anybody taking medication for moderate depression? What are you taking? Is it effective?

Do you combine with any other medication? I am going to the doctor tomorrow to treat my depression (I have had it for years, taking meds on and off) and I would like to know what is it that doctors ar prescribing now and if it works. If you can add SECONDARY effects that you have noticed, I will appreciate it.
THANK YOU ALL!!

Answers:
lexapro, wellbutrin, celexa, effexor, prozac are all good as monotherapy starters. More you add more likely are the side effects, but your doctor will initially escalate dose on one and then consider adding another one as needed and of course he/she will also consider the potential of side effects, feel free to email me with any questions

My wife takes prozac and has tried Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin gave her more energy but she didn't feel very good on it. The prozac makes a huge difference, though. I think they should put it in the water system!
I recently went in for treatment for depression...I tried Zoloft for about 2 and half weeks, but have had consistent headaches from morning till night. She put me on Lexapro this morning, which is supposed to be a little bit better as far as side effects go. I have had a few friends on it before who had good experience, and I have also heard it can start to work sooner then others. So hopefully you will find something that works for you quickly! Don't Give Up and Hang In There!
