By what mechanism does marijuana inhibit memory?
Interesting how alot of females I know (or asked) seem to have less memory problems associated with pot than males.
Coincidence?
Answers:
This may be attributed to the high densities of the central cannabinoid receptor, CB1, in the hippocampus, which is believed to be involved in the control memory. "The most consistent effect of delta-9-THC on performance is disruption of selective aspects of short-term memory tasks" (Herkenham et al. 1990).
An investigation into this matter has shown that THC neurotoxicity may be responsible for memory loss. In the study, treatment of cultured neurons of hippocampal slices with THC caused shrinkage of neuronal cell bodies and nuclei as well as genomic DNA strand breaks (Cadena et al. 1996).
Sorry for the cut and paste, but this seemed to answer the question.
i dnt no
Ummmmm, Dude, I can't remember!
uh i forgot! lol! because females have better short term memory and males have better long term
in large doses it floods the brain with way too much dopamine thereby depleting it - dopamine being a neurotransmitter -
Uh that would be THC! It does inhibit the memory just like any other drug it makes your brain slow trust me a used to be a big ol pothead myself.
