Should I be on anti-depressants?

I have anxiety about the stupidest things and I stress out about accomplishing things in my life. I know that I need some sort of solution to my problem and I am not sure if medication is it. O thought trying to work it out on my own would be best, but I am considering otherwise. Can I ask a normal doctor for this prescription?

Answers:
Your regular medical doctor can prescribe you psychotropic medications, so yes you should ask him about it. He is not trained to counsel though and it is best that you see a psychiatrist. However, if for some reason you can't afford to see one then talking to your medical doctor about your options and feelings is a good idea, much better than doing nothing.

He will probably prescribe you an anti-depressant. I suggest you not take any Benzodiazepines , these are medications usually used to treat anxiety, such as Xanax, Valium, and Klonopin. These can be addictive and don't really heal the problem. They are usually for temporary anxiety caused by lose of a family member.

Effexor is really good for treating anxiety & depression, this is a strong medication and has bad withdraw effects. If you want something not as strong then maybe Paxil or Zoloft. Talk to your doctor but educate yourself and stay informed, you need to know what you put into your body.

You can get anti-anxiety medicine that'll help. Some doctors prescribe after just asking a few questions.
Yes
no you should be some where safe like in an insanassylem
u need medicine for anxiety not depression
you can see a normal doctor yes, but its better to see a psych so they can evaluate you properly and diagnose you
No. Don't rely on medication to make these things work out for you. Doing the things that frighten you is the best cure I guaratee it.
Yes. They can help balance your brain chemicals.
Yes, you can ask your normal doctor for it. An anti-depressant actually saved me from going crazy! I was kind of like you but worse my doc put me on Lexapro 20mg once a day and it took about 3 weeks but I feel much better. Don't wait too long before you go in to see the Doctor, they can help! good luck! :) Angel
Try yoga, or self meditation. Our society is over medicated, everyone over 30 with little problems MD's want to give you Prozac. Before you know it, they will have a pill to counter act the Prozac because your to happy. Also you will be uninsurable if you take these types of drugs. You will have to stay with a group insurance. The insurance company's do not want you if you are dependent on these drugs.
you can talk to a doctor. i was on meds and they made me feel worse. i stopped and relized that if i speak up and tell people that i don't like what they are doing i am just fine. when i keep it in i freak out. everyone is different. so talk to a doctor. now i have a big mouth no one likes it. they liked me better when i was medicated.
You may benefit from an anti-depressant. There are anti-depressants that are useful in the treatment of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), your doctor can Rx the best kind for your anxiety.
Not everyone gets the same results from a particular anti-depressant - it may take some trial and error before you and your doctor find what works best for you.
You may in fact hit the right stuff on first attempt.. but also know, that it may take about two weeks to a month before you actually start to feel better.
I hear that Effexor XR is a really good anti-depressant for anxiety with depression.
I hope it all works out for you. justme..
Yes, surprisingly so, it's quite easy to get med's from your primary care physician. You fill out a little questionaire. . . and there ya go! You do sound a little high anxiety. but as a warning, if you do decide to get on med's remember there are withdrawls if you stop or wean and if you take too much mg. you may not give a sh*^. Just be careful. If you can exercise and take vitamins.. I would go that route.
