Withdrawal help during pregnancy?
I have been taking 10mg daily Lexapro, and 0.25mg Xanax as needed for the last month. I just had a positive pregnancy test and my doctor has taken me off my medications as of this Monday. It has been a couple of days and I am already feeling a lot of withdrawl symptoms (headache, dizziness, brain numbness, and slight tremors). My doctor said to just tough it out, but this is awful. I am currently working full time and next week I will be driving across the country to move. Is there ANYTHING at all that I can do to make myself feel better. I am drinking as much water as I can and trying to exercise daily, but I feel so terrible. Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

two of the above answers were a little bit rude. You are doing the right thing for your unborn child by getting off drugs prescription or otherwise. There's not a lot you can do but tough it out. When the nausea kicks in try ginger, it does help, drink ginger beer, eat ginger snaps and keep ginger lollies in your purse. As for the headaches and dizziness, get as much rest as you can, take lots of warm baths, and use hot packs to relieve aches and pains. I had severe post-natal depression after my first child's birth and i was put on Zoloft for 2 years. I had pretty horrible with-drawls from it when i went off it after finding out i was pregnant again. Trust me when i say your almost over the worst of it, once the nausea passes you'll be feeling great. Good luck sweetie, if you need advice e-mail me at nastee1985@yahoo.com
go to newmom.com . . they have a set of FAQ . . .
Ask your doctor if there are any medications that can substitute the ones you were on, yet are safe for pregnancy.
Your doctor screwed up. He never should have cold turkeyed you. You should have been weened off of the xanax and the lexipro. I don't know why in the hell the doctor just told you to stop taking them without decreasing the medication a little at a time. I believe that you have a quack for a doctor.
Some people can quit Lexapro with little difficulty, and some cannot. I suggest you call the doctor and say you are having very bad effects, and ask about a more gradual withdrawal. It would be normal to split your lexapro in half and take 5 mg a day for a week. After that you could split it again or go to 0.
First, congrats on your pending motherhood. Second,
ignore the rude answers given to your question. Third, find another doctor. Good luck!
