Take up Yoga. At home, try breathing exercises. Sit or lie down then you breath in through your nose , count one to six before you breath out slowly count one to six.Even counting numbers backwards slowly from 100,99,98 will help calm your nerves.Find what is troubling you. Find something to do when you are free like gardening or walking in the park, keep a pet, talking to friends or family helps a lot.You can overcome depression when you are happy. Clear your mind by doing things to keep you occupied. Eat a balance diet, stop worrying. I have suffered from panic attack which is far worse than you. I am cured. You can too.

yoga or any other meditation and / or concentration technique plus regular prayers may help.
i dont know-sorry
Exercise is great for depression, especially aerobic exercise and yoga. If you can do something you enjoy outside or with others that's even better.
any exercise can help justgetout of the house and go for a long walk, or jog. the more exercise you do, the more good hormones wre released into yourbody and the better you feel walk, bike, run, swim, lift weights, do anything besides sitting in the house.
aerobic exercise and laughing exercise
when i find myself depressed i try to hang out with people who i enjoy being around people i trust and i can talk to. it helps to talk about your feelings. dont try to keep it in it will drive you crazy. get out and enjoy yourself. life is to short make the best of it. and have fun in the process.
Yoga, it makes you concentrate on your muscles and what you are doing.it is hard for your mind to wander when you are upside down or balancing on one foot. Also, you can try St. John's Wort. It is an herbal supplement, not a drug, that helps you to calm down and feel more balanced/less depressed.

General aerobic exercise would help too, if you are up for it. Running, biking, doing a class, dancing, etc. Exercise releases endorphines which cause you to feel happier naturally!
Go for YOGA

Slow breathing inhaling and exhaling from your nose. It is also good for your muscles.
And yes, if you are responsible person, there are some perscription drugs available to atleast help you sleep. Anti-depressants such as paxil or zoloft probably won't help in that area. You should look into Ambien or Lunesta. Everyone needs sleep to function properly.
Ask your psycharist to refer you to a psychotherapist.

It will help you as medication has also not work for me. I am now out of my depression and still need to go for psychotherapy session once a month. initially you may have to go more often , but as your sitiuation improves you will see the psychotherapist less often.

Take care and be kind to yourself.
Your psychologist is giving you horrible advice. If you were diabetic and needed insulin, would you NOT take it?? Get on the meds. If it gives you side effects, switch to a different one until you find one you do well with. I tried putting off meds for over a year, living in agony. Get on the meds - you'll be SOOOO happy you did.
I wasn't taking medication for my depression, and my other problems. I was told to start taking medications. I am now on medicines. They help. Now with me they help me yeah, but they don't control it all. I was also told I have stress disorder, adhd, and bi-polar on top of my manic depression. I would go see someone that knows what they are talking about. Medications help.
For mild depression, you may not take medication and you could try psychotherapy or other treatments. Try any exercises and yoga will be beneficial. Meditation is mental exercise and it will lift your mood and at the same time, you will get mindfulness.
