if you are suffering from insomnia, what kind of phisician should you consult for help?

any general number to get in touch with someone?

Answers:
If you are experiencing emotional responses that are preventing you from sleeping, then I would consult a psycologist. If it is just unable to sleep, no reason that you can see, see a family doctor. Most of the time they will either suggest a diet/excercise change. Other times they may prescribe a sleep aid.

just your regular doctor should be able to prescribe you something.
any family doctor or general practioner
Ambien, thats all you need, any Doc can prescribe it..
start out with your own personal physician---why hop skip, and jump around---good place to start!
i reccomend hypnotherapy
Check out insomnia in Yahoo!Answers for what has worked for other people, but if you have tried them all (including eating a protein based snack before bedtime), then a general practitioner should help. You may want to get tested for insulin overproduction though, because that may be a cause.
consult your regular doctor. if they won't be able to help you, they'll be able to refer you.
Are you on any meds that may be causing your problems?

First try to work this out on your own:
No caffeine after 3pm
No stimulating TV 2 hours prior to bedtime
Soft music and low lighting 1 hour prior to bedtime
All lights off where you are trying to sleep
Moderate temperature in the room
NO STRESS..make your mind go blank

If that doesn't help, see your doc for a non-addictive sleeping pill

GOOD LUCK
YOU COULD SEE A SLEEP SPECIALIST. WHERE I LIVE, THEY HAVE SLEEP CENTERS. FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. YOU COULD ALSO SEE A EAR, NOSE ,THROAT SPECIALIST. IT COULD BE SOMETHING WITH YOUR INNER SINUSES. OH, YEAH. AMBIEN IS VERY ADDICTIVE. MAKE THAT YOUR LAST RESORT. YOUR VERY LAST RESORT.
a naturopath is good to see. they will make all kinds of tests on you (urine, blood, saliva, energy, many others) and offer healthier theraphy options. also they recommend herbs, vitamins, minerals for medication temporarily with little or no side effects.

check out this site cand.ca if you live in canada. it has lots of information on what to expect from a naturopath and how they work.

they treat any illness including insomnia.

good luck :)
Many large cities actually have 'sleep disorder centers' where that's all they do..find the right kind of help. They are specialists in the field. Rather than just taking the 'shot in the dark' approach, a sleep disorder center can usually help you immediately, with or without drugs. This of course would be for you only if the insomnia goes on for a week or more. As others have said, you should discuss this with you GP first. Pleasant dreams! G
