I'm having serious problems sleeping when I want to.?
when I get tired and start to drift off within an 30-60mins I get an intense rush of adrenalin through my entire body that instantly jolts me in to a very awake and alert state. The sensation is strong and my heart rate is high and I feel ready to fight. Coming down is extremely hard and even if I'm physically and mentally exhausted I can not sleep. Any ideas to help me sleep?
I'm not on drugs, prescribed or recreational.

I was recently prescribed something called clonidine for just this same problem. I have a hard time actually falling asleep. My mind races and I get desperate for sleep. I think trying to go to sleep makes it worse. Lots of nights looking up and seeing 4:38 on the alarm clock. This Clonidine i was prescribed was created as a blood pressure medication but is used in some instances to treat sleeplessness. It is the only thing that has worked for me, and it has worked well. I have waken feeling refreshed. All the other things ive tried failed miserably.
try exercising it will help you to relax
Have you ruled out sleep apnea? I know that sleep clinics can diagnose this. Maybe you should ask them if they ever heard of your problem.
I went through a similar thing when my step-father was dying. For me it was due to the stress and it eventually led to serious mental health issues because I wasn't getting enough sleep. You should see your doctor and make sure there's nothing physically wrong with you that's causing this. If not, see a therapist to find out what is stressing you out so much so you can learn how to cope.
Sounds as though you are going through some hard times in your life, or stress from something that is disturbing you. Try to calm down, take a long salt bath to relax, drink warm milk.
see a Doctor, there may be some underlying causes for this, perhaps sleep disorder?
It may be something you eat or drink, a lot of caffenine, or apples, those both give you a bunch of energy. It also maybe you are stressed or thinking of taskes that you need to do for the next day. Is someone you love in pain, or recent break up? That would do it. Try writing down everything you are thinking about and everything you need to accomplish for the next day. this may help you sleep. It it doesn't I would recommend seeing a doctor.
Get your self relax and free from all worries and hardship which you are facing in your daily life before going to sleep then you will enjoy good sleep. However if not possible to forget every thing before going to sleep then you will have to get sleeping pills because there is no other alternate.
meditaiting helped me a lot plus having a happy day or sex.
You should really try exercising but make sure you do it 3 to 4 hours before you go to bed. That may help to regulate your adreline levels. Aviod all types of caffiene for the whole day (even green tea) and you could even try taking a sleeping pill, or mild sedative such as gravol.
