I have Memory problems should i go for the new Brain gym cure?
I was Born with a hyper active disorder wich affects my concentration. Its not as bad as people think though. In a way it comes to an advantage although a disadvantage at the same time. I can remember things from the past as if it was yesterday i remember as far as being 5 years old i always remember a face even if the persons face changed over the years or if ive only seen them once. Yet i cant remember simple things like The shopping list my Mum told me 5mins ago! or peoples birthdays new names etc yet i could tell you the entire story of a book in full detail page by page. Ive recently read a news paper article about a new "Cure" for short term memory problems called the Brain Gym But if i improve my short term memory will that mean i'll forget the things that ive been remembering from the past for so many years?? i dont know if i want to lose those memorys although is it important to have them? please help me make a decision

I use brain gym exercises with my children and as most of the exercises can be developed or modified into your own routine they are able to do this before they go to school or in the car on the way to school just to wake their brain up which, like them, can be hlf asleep! In a world where so much is already done for us (& the kids have me for the rest!) the brain can only benefit from stimulation which in this case is in the form of very gentle repetive exercises. My dyslexic son finds some of the exercises very useful to do when he is 'drifting off' during class, as no-one else is aware he is doing them.I would say that the best results have been when both sides of the brain are stimulated and ecxercises are repeated on both sides of the body or working left to right then right to left. From my own experience it has not affected the long term memory only helped with short term and working memory. If you need further information try researching Kinesiology.
Blimey, I'm just like that and never knew it was a problem, just thought i was a little nutty! Then thought it was my bipolar!
I've heard that ginko bibloba (not sure on spelling) helps? As does omega 3.
Not heard about the brain gym, though i do know that your brain, unlike a computer, doesn't have a limit on how much it can hold information wise, so i'm pretty sure you won't forget anything through doing the brain gym thing. In fact, you'll probably feel like a boffin!!
No word of a lie though, every time i've intended to go to the health shop to get it i always forget what i'm in town for!
I have not tried them myself, but i believe there are techniques to help your memory. I think this will only add to your mental skills and not take anything away. I am no expert though.
nah you will still remember as it is different parts of the brain that function short- term and long- term memory. I lost alot of my short term memory with drugs.. and i had to have designated pockets that i could associate things with so that i wouldnt lose things all the time. Best thing to do is just to keep yourself a lil diary my friend then that way you can keep track all the time.. i write absolutely everything i do on to paper then that way if i need to look back then i can. you say that youre hyper active . have you ever considered going to the gym never mind the brain gym, it will improve your mood and decrease the levels of adrenaline in your body. so you will not stress and you will be a bit more chilled out mate. works for me anyways, hope this helps.
I don't think that you will lose your long term memories by doing some form of "brain exercise". They will always be there, maybe a little more submerged by new experiences, but there nonetheless.
However, I would read up in Wikipedia on the Brain Gym as there are disagreements about how effective it is. There is a game for the Ninetendo DS called Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? It's been heavily promoted, and it is well known that stimulating the brain keeps it working - sort of lifelong learning.
BTW, I can always remember a face as well. It might be that your brain works more on a visual level - faces, diagrams, etc rather than on a verbal / written level, and that the writing takes longer to process.
Good luck in making a decision - that's one thing I can't do to save my life. I often wonder if there is some software that promotes decision making!
YEP, thats the same thing as me!! Wow, i never knew it was a disorder though.. =(
Hmmmm, what i try to do is relate anything i have to remeber Now, to what i remember iin the past..
and thats how i remember things now.
