Scared to take the Aniti depressants?
Answers:
Well first off realize that this is not your fault. Though I don't like drugs myself, I do realize that in some cases they do help. And also realize that they are only a temporary solution to the problem. First thing I would do is talk to someone about whats going on. A clinical doctor is only going to prescribe pills to you because he or she is only looking at it from a body perspective. I would seek a psychologist in your area. Most doctors offer a consultation to see if both of you click. And that is very important to realize that you need to click with your doctor in order to help ourself to the fullest. With that being said I would start small by looking at the problem like you have the flu. With rest and medicine, the flu will leave your body faster, but if you do nothing it will stick around as long as it can. So treat this problem like that, look at like yes I am depressed but I will get better as soon as possible, and I will do everything I can to aid that. I wish you the best of luck and hope this helps. Thanks
I was on zoloft for 2 years... for depression. everyone said that they could see the change in me. I was more social, didn't stay in my room all the time and had a larger appitite.
Again I only used it for 2-3 years and no I don't take it and i am still fine.
I say give it a try, can't hurt. I never, while on it, had a relapse and it never made me more depressed, but when i forgot to take it you could see the difference!
Good luck with taking it.
Effexor affects brain chemistry differently than Zoloft does. Unfortunately, no one really knows why one anti-depressant can work for one person and not for another, so that can mean you might have to try several different medications until you find something that helps. When you start a new medication, it may take 3-4 weeks to adjust. Some people feel groggy for the first couple of weeks, and then as the medication reaches the right level in your blood, you would start noticing a gradual difference. Many people expect antidepressants to start working the first day and this is rarely the case. Be patient, keep in close contact with your doctor, and don't be afraid to let your doctor know when something isn't working for you. There are many, many options to try, so don't despair if one medication doesn't work for you.
I know how you feel but you have to take your Meds until you find the right one for you.
I took paxil which made me a little manic, then it stopped working! So I was then put on Leproxil (sp) an epilepsy medication. So one had me up & the other brought me down which had me level.
I hate taking meds but I realized I wouldn't get well with out them.
So Please take you meds & see your Dr regularly so you can find the best thing for you.
look i had the same experience when i took prozac i spent my days sleeping more than 12 hours a day and after waking i feel my self drunk.
Im talking now tetracycle antidepressant. its very light and makes you awake and having good attension to others. you may have light anxiety, but better than prozac that drugs drugs you. the SSRI's and SNRI's antidepressants make some people very sleepy. so tell your doctor i want light meds like tetracycles antidepressant.
Oh Effexor is very very bad...they put me on it for six months and it was awful. I had been on anti-depressants and mood stabilizers since I was in 7th grade to treat depression, anxiety attacks, and bi-polar disorder. Nothing ever really did more than cover up my emotions, or give me a false rise. But Effexor was the worst they'd ever put me on. I had the same kind of symtoms as you, sleeping too much, even more deprssed than when I started. I would also have halucinations, and no appetite but I was gaining a lot of wieght. Then I read that effexor has a lot of realy nasty side effects including heart issues, comas, even suicide (you can check it out on the FDA website). And to think this stuff is supposed to do the opposite right? It was at that point that I had an epiphany; that all the drugs were only ever going to cover up the problem. They were a mask, and underneath I still had all of the same emtional issues with no improvement. So I decided to get off all of the drugs, I was tired of it, sooo tired. My pshyciatrist threw a royal fit, and we had an argument. He told me that I needed the drugs to get better and that I would be unstable without them yada yada yada. So I got a second opinion. Now this psychiatirist said that there really isn't enough known about the science of the brain for there to be a definite answer about whether or not someone needs drugs. Sometimes they help and sometimes they don't, and that its all just trial and error. She let me off of the meds. Ever since that I've been kind of resentful and ditrusting of some psyciatrists. You have to understand that for some of them you are just a paycheck, so they need you to be on the meds so that they get paid. I think some of them have a god complex if you ask me, and that's not cool when we are talking about my brain and my body. So its been three years now with no drugs, and to be honest, I feel great. It was hard coming of of the meds at first. I found a great therapist and did a lot of research. I think for me, the drugs were keeping me in the dark. All I really needed was to understand my condition. How it works, and especially what the triggers are. My therapist was great for that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of the happy shiny people by any means, but when I do get stressed out or depressed, instead of going down an explosive, self destructive path, I see my triggers, and I have little ways that I calm myself down. To be honest, it feels amazing to be in control. My body feels heathly, and I feel like I'm normal, not like I have a problem. And I'm saving a whole lot of money too :) If you are tired of it all too, maybe what I did will work for you. You just have to want it. And trust yourself, above everyone else, because you are the only person who really understands. Good luck, I hope that you can do it :)
