I have been under really bad stress in the past 2 months..?
and have recently been diagnosed with depression. I was initially put on Zoloft, and my dr let me increase my dose, way to quickly ( ex. from 25 mg to 100mg in a week ), and I started having really bad tension headaches. Kinda feels like someone is squeezing my head. I was switched on Tuesday to Lexapro, just 10mg, and I am not going to rush things this time. But does anyone have advice for the headaches? My dr, gave me flexeril and I took one yesterday at 1245 and by 5, I was ready to fall asleep at my desk here at work. They are 10mg pills. They told me I could just take 1/2 a pill, but I am kinda hesitant. The headaches are pretty constant, from when I wake up, I also haven't been sleeping well which might play a part. But I am just at my wits end, and looking for suggestions. Any helpful advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing you must do is contact your physician to discuss the side effects of Lexapro. I have attached the Yahoo drug information site below so that you can read more about it. Lexapro can cause a rise in blood pressure and that can cause headaches. If that is the case for you, then you need to take something else. But call your doctor and let them assess the situation. Do not make changes yourself as this is potentially detrimental with your depression. Let the doctor decide what you need to do.
Are you going to your family physician to get this medication or a psychiatrist? It sounds to me as if you are seeing your family doctor and this is of a concern for me. Antidepressant medication MUST be increased SLOWLY - a few weeks - to allow for your body to adjust to it. Increasing your dosage as you did was extremely dangerous and your doctor should have known better than to give you permission to do so. Additionally, when you go off of these drugs you simply cannot go off of them and completely stop taking them in one day. You have to be weaned off of one slowly, while the other is being introduced simultaneously. Sudden stops in taking these drugs will make your depression worse. If you are seeing your family doctor for this - who is not trained in psychopharmacology - it could be a problem. Try finding a psychiatrist to assist you with this. They are trained as a doctor with a specialty in psychiatry. They know the impact of drugs on our systems, especially when it comes to mental health.
Secondly, do not take Flexiril at work, no matter how small the dosage. This drug is actually a muscle relaxant prescribed to help injured muscles relax and minimize pain. It is not used to eradicate headaches! In addition it is prescribed for a condition called fibromyalgia, which is a muscle pain, achiness, sleep disorder. People with fibromyalgia do not sleep well because they cannot reach the restful, healing stage of sleep. They wake up dozens of times during the night, which makes them wake up exhausted, stiff, sore and achy the next day. When Flexiril is prescribed for this purpose it relaxes a person's muscles so much they can fall asleep almost instantly. Residual effects of the drug (the next day) are grogginess, spaciness and sluggishness. It is dangerous to drive when on this drug.
I have taken Flexirl for fibromyalgia and it completey knocked me out so much that the next day I could barely function, let alone drive. I slept great and felt better, but I was useless. Thank God it was a Saturday!
Please be an advocate for your own health and investigate the side effects of all medications you have to take, especially if you have to take things together. Everyone reacts differently to drugs due to the differences in our individual body chemistry. You can look into this information on WebMD. For example, when I have a bad headache I take Aleve. I usually take two tablets because one doesn't do anything for me. Most people only take one. Some people can't tolerate Aleve at all, so they take Tylenol. Tylenol does absolutely nothing for me, nor does Advil.
Take care of yourself and call your doctor!
Baby, you just need som good sex. I bet anything you have not ben laid in years.
You should prolly get a second opinion and take your meds with you.
This is a common side effect when starting on SSRI depression meds. The wiredness and headaches usually dissapear completely after 2 weeks, and you suddenly start feeling good, no fantastic actually. At least with me it worked like that.
You just need to hang in there and remember this is temporary. If it doesn't sound to wierd, consider going to an acupuncturist- I've had freinds who say it can work wonders with recurrent headaches.
Be careful cause Zoloft can cause heart problems. It happened to my mother. She had been taking it for over 10 years. She was having all kind of problems with her heart. 2 small heart attacks, shortness of breath, dizziness, headaches, sweating, and tightness in her chest. She couldn't even walk 3 or 4 steps without having all those symptoms I just named. Go on the internet and pull up about Zoloft and heart problems. That's how we found out about them. If you can't find it, ask a doctor or a nurse about it. Those anti-depressants can be dangerous to your health. I'll pray for you. God bless you.
P.S. : I was on them and weaned myself off of the medicine. Except I was taking Paxil and Welbutron. I did not like the way the medicine made me feel. I just do therapy now. My mother had to wean herself off of the medication also. It is still a struggle sometimes with my mental state, but thru GOD, any thing can change. I do alot of praying, fasting, reading my Bible, and talking to Jesus and GOD. That helps me alot. I'm also involved in the church quite often.
Flexiril is a muscle relaxer. Go ahead and take 1/2 the dose. Give the Lexapro time to do its thing. Can't you take Motrin, Advil, or Tylenol with them? Call the pharmacy and ask.
I wonder if something is in your house that is causing bad headaches, like mold or carbon monoxide.
Go for a little walk after dinner. Activity can help.
Well, for depression why u try to remember the most happy moment of u life and write down all the details, try hard. Every time u feel like that, read ed and visualize u on that moment, also try something different, like read the Bible, at start is kind of confuse, butt a time u going to learn. For headaches, I suffer of migraine since i was a kid, I try everything u imagine, avoid chocolate, and acid stuff like hot sauce or spice food. Wen on stress write down the situation don't panic and wen the moment is calm express u feelings. Its work for me, hope for U.
i used to take lexapro also 10mg you have to take it at night it would make me sleep all the time there was days i could sleep all day and not know anything.and also it take at least a month and half to actually help you.i would see if your doctor could give you ib.500 mg to help with your headaches.you have to give your body to get the zoloft out of your system it does'nt stop just when stop taking the pill it could take some time.but from me takin the lexapro i do not believe its the flexeril thats is making you tired only its the combination of the two best thing to do is take the lexapro at night instead of the morning.i hope this works out for you.if you want you can email me if you need any more help
