I've always had depressive episodes..but as I get older they become more intense and longer?
where when I was a teen they would last 4-6 months.now this last episode(im 26 now) that I am in is going on two years. I never heard of anybody having a profound depression for two years. I'm really having a hard time Meds do not work. I never understood how therapy is supposed to work. Anybody had this experience

I can relate. I've struggled with depression since I was in jr. high and it got worse when I got into college. It's a little better now but I still go up and down a lot. Therapy really helped me (I didn't have any luck with meds either and I think I've tried almost all of them) because it helped me sort through some issues from my past, learn better ways to cope with the depression, and be able to form better/healthier relationships with other people in my life.
Maybe you could give therapy a try? If you don't like it than don't go back. And don't be afraid to "shop around" for a therapist either. Therapist's are all very different in how they approach things. Some are very directive and others let you do the leading. Some work more on present issues, others look more to past problems. If there's something you know you want from a therapist, ask about it- if you don't get an answer you like than try someone else.
Sorry for the long answer- hope it was helpful!
I think you need to discuss this with a mental health professional.
Therapy can really help! You should try it.
You may be misdiagnosed or on the wrong meds. Mental health meds are funny and it can take a long time to see which one(s) will work for you. As far as it getting worse, circumstances could be affecting that. Start with a pyschologist for some good talk therapy.they can't write scripts so will help you find the cause/root of your depression..and if it is even depression or the depression is a result of an underlying condition (such as bipolar, which is a genetic thing) Good luck to you~
Depression gets harder to come out of as you age, because of the way your brain ages. I have battled depression for a long time, and at 40, meds are getting less effective. I have heard some real good things about True Hope, www.truehope.com
although haven't tried it yet. Supplementing cal mag, fish oils, and vitamin b are a step in the right direction as is exercise and really watching your sugar intake. I also keep a full spectrum light in my kitchen, and take vitamin D, it helps some.
Well there is therapy and then there is therapy. Your therapy is only as good as your therapist.
And I hear you about the meds..IM a woman and most clinical trials are done on men. Which leaves me sadly misdignosed and treated. I tired all the crap and finally decided to stop the chemical rollercoaster. I eat right, exercise and began to deal with my stressors.i guess you could say i have made some serious life changes.
Have you ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or manic depression? or possibly dystimia? Are there some underlying issues eating away at you that need to be addressed and dealt with. Im tellin ya, once I started to dealve into my past and deal with my 'junk' my whole life turned around. Dont hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss it further. Life is complicated. But I have read some great books that have helped me tremendously..helped me to get to the heart of the matter and go from there. DOnt hesitate to get in touch!
I have had this issue. I am Manic Depressive and as I age my episodes have gotten longer and more intense. The only thing that has helped me is continuing therapy and a medication adjustment. When I was younger, for example, I was on Depakote and Effexor and now I am on Celexa and Lamictial. Your body becomes "used" to the medication after a while, and you need an adjustment every once in a while to get the most out of it. Keep up with your therapy. I know that it seems pointless sometimes, but it really will help. You may want to look into finding a different therapist because not all therapists are good for everyone. Keep the faith, things will get better. I went through a 5 year depression and finally found the medications and therapy that worked for me. You will make it through this. Never be afraid to ask for help.
My mom went through that and she got on Paxil. You say meds didnt work. Did you try Paxil. That is the best! She's been on it for about 14 years and its the best thing
mine peeked at 30 and now at 35 they have gotton more help and therapy.it will be fine.they say the older we get the less horrible it will be
