Eating disorder?

Just out of interest is it considered an eating disorder if after losing weight initially through stress a person continues to eat less in order to maintain the new weight. As in only eating one small meal a day to the point that they are not only maintaining the new weight but losing more? is that unhealthy?

Answers:
In a nutshell it is extremely unhealthy. When you do these types of things, the body goes into starvation mode, and you have to eat even less to lose the weight. The body will then burn off muscle instead of fat. A lot of people do not realize the heart is a muscle and this type of eating puts a person at risk for a heart attack.
Not necessarily. It isn't unhealthy to want to capitalize on the gains one may have experienced (weight loss) as a result of a difficult situation, but maintaining the weight loss by resorting to unhealthy behavior learned from a stressful situation is not necessarily good judgement. Following up the initial weight loss from stress with healthy diet and exercise would be much better.
Eating one meal a day is not unusual or likely to result in any medical complications (i've been doing that my entire life) but it isn't a good method for weight loss as your metabolism readjust and the initial loss you experienced won't continue.
Yes, it's unhealthy and could possibly be an eating disorder. Talk to your doctor.
