I saved this question, hoping somebody would answer it because I found it very interesting. One of my sons has OCD, and has had a lot of difficulty getting on with his life because of it.
I found this article, which I intend to bookmark and read when I have more energy (it's bedtime here).
So I thought maybe it would answer your very complicated question.
Having scanned it just very quickly, I see that it has to do with behavioral therapy, and self-treatment. My son has actually done quite lot of that, and has made tremendous progress that way.
