Does marijuana help with bi-polar dissorder?

My best friend smokes almost every day. He does not take his presribed meds. He says his self medication works better. He has worked in emergency medicine for over 15 years. He also has a paradoxal reaction to benzo's.

It seems to be an individual type thing. Some have good results, some not.

There is a book out called 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes' that has a ton of information about the 'good' marijuana maybe can do.I'd say its worth a read.

I am not an advocate for prescription medication unless other things have been tried. Another book, 'The Antidepressant Fact Book' has lots of information about certain medications that have as many bad side effects as good ones..makes a person think about it.

Your friend may need to slow down a bit, but if he is functioning at least reasonably well then that should be considered. Just be careful hanging with someone doing something you know to be illegal, you could be at the wrong place at the wrong time and get busted as well, if you know what I mean.

Be careful, and I wish your friend the best of luck.

it could , it tends to mellow people out if smoked in small amounts. If you smoke large amounts you can have panic attacks. Or if you stop and then start again you can have panic attacks.I have anxiety problems and I use it to self medicate myself as well. I no longer take prescription drugs they are BAD, BAD , BAD .
Dude, marijuana helps with everything. That's why i take it in advance, just in case something happens.
I lost a bi polar friend to suicide and I firmly believed his marijuana use expedited his death.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not anti pot, but I think it doesn't mix with depression at all
no. lithium does
My ex's cousin smoked all the time for her bi-polar disorder and it mellowed her out a lot more then the prescriptions she was taking
a good friend on mine was bi polar and it seemed to mess him up even more. he'd get really freaked out about stuff, and other times he'd just sit there all lazy, and i think i even saw him crying once. i would think that it would vary from person to person, but the idea of unprescribed drugs on a person who already has a chemical imbalance would scare me.

i'm a healthy guy, and i've never tried drugs, so i cant really lend any first hand experience. sorry.
all kinds f drugs make u dependant do it may be causing another set of probs
He might think it's helping him now but that son of a gun will be loonier that a monkey on crack when he gets older.
420 4 life, WEED IS GREAT
Pot helps with everything.
Yeah thats a bunch of bull. You friend needs to re-think a few things and lay off the pot..
Absolutely, without a doubt! In fact prescription, meds such as Clonazapam and Valproate and are more addictive and harmful than THC! Stay away from prescription meds!!

To Hellion210, maybe you haven't done illicit drugs. But I'll bet you've done Aspirin, Tylenol, Caffeine, maybe some Nicotine. All DRUGS!
