The best advice I can give is ..stay busy. When you start to feel like you don't want to be around anyone, that is when you should find someone to be around (friend or relative), Being around people often lifts the tension and the negative thoughts and doesn't let them get a hold on you. Also following along with staying busy, teach yourself to do something you have alwasy wanted to learn. It's like an exercise for your mind, it is very difficult to get depressed when your mind is beusy learning something, and you also have the added benefit of pride after you have taught yourself something.
Depression is a very difficult time to go through. You just cannot turn it off. It will take some time for medication to take hold. Even on medication you still may have incidents that cause a period of depression. I have been on zoloft for 4 years, and generally I am good. In times of depression, I use my support group who are family members, close friends, even some co workers. Also get yourself involved in some volunteer work where you do things for other people. The feel good from this will help.
Sorry to hear you're down. I watch tv, movies, go out with friends & family. Keep yourself from sitting alone at home. If you are alone, join a group. Take an art class at community college. Exercise is also very good. If gets the blood flowing & helps you feel good about yourself. If you look good, you feel good. Write me if you need to talk! Good Luck! :)
Exercise, being around POSITIVE friends, meditation, rest. Also just being able to control your own thinking. Realize that your thoughts are your own. You can chose to block out the bad ones and turn them into positives. Seriously read this book it changed my life. Its called "You Can Be Happy No Matter What". I forget the authors name right now but really pick it up. Its a quick and easy read and makes sooooo much sense. I hope that helps. I have suffered from depression since I was a child. These are things that I try. Nothing seemed to help me (medication, therapy) because until you recognize the problem and realize you can control it yourself because YOU ARE strong enough to control it, then you will be dependant on other ways of coping. Really the only long term option is trying to just be as strong as possible and recognizing when you feel depressed and squashing it right then and there once you feel it. It will eventually become habit and hopefully help you out at least a bit. I hope this helps because I truly understand how difficult and draining it can be.

Good Luck.
I think you have to make a concious effort to do things that would take away the thought of depression from your mind. What do u like to do? In terms of recreation, interests, etc. Do those things.Don't sit watching the tv, that just makes u more depressed. But what caused it in the first place? Stress at work, relationship issues, etc. Avoid those.
But all in all, I think each person feels differently, so u have to know yourself and act accordingly.
By giving yourself positive affirmations."I am a good person".."I have self worth"."I am special"."I can do it!".
Also try to think of one small thing each day to be grateful for.a grateful attitude is a positive one.
Look at today as the only day in which you have to worry about getting through. One day at a time!
Don't beat yourself up or talk critically to yourself.
Find someting good and positive in your current situation.concentrate on the little things.not the huge problems looming over your head.
Find an acitivity which occupys your mind totally..if you cannot dwell on your problems or negative thinking, it will help.
Also, finding someone else to encourage, who is feeling blue, will help you to feel better.
Hang in there, like a hair in a biscuit!
The only way to really overcome depression is delivering your life to God and Jesus Christ.
This way, you will not need to worry about anything, let God lead them for you, just trust in Him.
I will let you here the Psalm 91, it will be good for you:
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. 14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. 15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
Go to a Christian Church near you, watch the service and talk to the pastor. I hope he will help you.
God bless you,
