What type of disorder do I have?
I have been to a psychiatrist who had given me multiple disgnosis in a matter of minutes and treated me accordingly. I found the medication unagreeable and I discontinued them on my own. This was 3 years ago. As of now, my symptoms have changed.
My mood changes very quickly from " up and happy " to a bit down in the dumps. My thoughts seem to race as son asI awake from topic to topic. I feel deep anxiety regarding certain topics in my life including work. Sometimes (increasingly less in frequency) I become quite angry and hae some difficluty controling my temper. I am not physical in my anger (I used to be). My fights seem to be with my wife the most (ver stupid things). I fing myself regretting the fights after things cool down because my repsonses were not proportionate to the actual fight. I go too far with things I say but I can not control my mouth quite often. Any ideas out there. I could use the input. I love my wife and do not want to subject her to this any longer.

Unfortunately, that's not enough info. to help you w/ a diagnosis. :( You could be bipolar, borderline, or have an anxiety disorder. I would recommend giving therapy a shot. Meeting with someone weekly would give them the chance to get to know you and make a proper diagnosis. From there, you guys can consider medication and a referral to a good psychiatrist.
Good luck! You deserve help and support. :)
Bi polar
GOOGLE IT - NOT - DONT KNOW
sounds like bi polar with extreme anxiety
Classic bipolar.
bi-polar?
You sound pretty normal to me, you basically described me and almost anyone I know.
Could be bi-polar disorder
It sounds to me like you are lingering in the first stage of chronic depression. It is a horrible thing to go through. Ask your doctor about wellbutrin.
What's the point of putting a label on it if you wouldn't take your meds anyway.
Bi-polar meaning you have happy thoughts and depressing thoughts.
When it comes to medications there are many out there but you have to try them to see how they affect you. You also have to change the doses to see how much or little is good enough.
I'm no doctor, but it sounds like you are bi-polor. Which you can live without medication, but you would be alot better off getting it under control. I am sure your wife would appreciate it.
fast cycling bi-polar maybe a little ocd
I agree I sounds like a few things, Please never stop meds with out a doc. it can be very danerous. if you feel the doc is not helping let the doc know. if it dosnt work out, Go to a diffrent one. Meds don't allways heal, they usaly control.
Feel Good
Sounds like ADD. I was diagnosed with the same. Symptoms increase with stress and for me manifest as frustration (ie. getting angry).
Originally I was perscribed Strattera (sp?) but I did not like the side effects. Now I take Welbutrin that is normally considered an anti-depressent, but does give noticeable relief for my ADD as well.
These are typical characteristics of bipolar disorder, although only a true medical professional can diagnose you . I've sorry you've had difficuly with previos medical health professionals, but it is their place to perscribe medication and treat you. See a phsychiatrist as soon as possible. Good luck- I know where you're coming from. *hug*
you have disorderly conduct
Maybe Bipolar
I have it , just a guess, I'm not a psych professional.
Just rest, try to be nice, be in nature, exercise, get meds maybe, find a doc you can trust if you acan, find a therapist you can trust if you can. Get as much sleep as you can. Analyze yourself as much as you can. Good diet, yoga, massage, meditation, sleep. Find what works. Good Luck !!
all you have to do is go blank before you go angry . think it over .. say to your self its only something stupid.. thats ok . take deep breaths or just go for a walk . your wife would appreciate that .
You have anxiety. I have it too. The best way I found to deal with this is to get a regular work out schedule, like stationary biking and weights and to take some career related classes at a community college. Usually, it's related to an inner fear,, a sixth sense that you are not prepared for the challenges comming up in life. Just prepare, prepare, prepare. work hard and it should subside.
i would say depression. Most depression victims have good memories and are able to remember tragic things that happened to them a while back. Those memories create anger and anxiety. i think you should see a psychologist instead of a psychiatrist, ur not crazy. you just need to sit down and think things over an lear to approache things in a different way.
Check Bi Polar disorder with ADHD. I was originally going to be rude and put idiocy, but then I read you were actually being serious.
You're addicted to rock.
But seriously, sounds like ADD or ADHD.
yes my hubby was just like that and we found he is bipolar, and we had to try many different meds before one would work for him ,yes it will effect your wife in a big way ,you could even loose her so you decide what most important and do the right thing ,get on medicine ,go to group meetings before you loose her .
when u go to a psychiatrist and he prescribe u medications.if it doesnt agree with you, don't just stop them.it can be a recipe for disaster esp for psychiatric meds..anyway tell ur psychiatrist that its not working for you then he can substitute with something else. Always remember that all medications will have side effects.some of it mild enough to be felt by some. but most of it have side effects that u just have to deal with so ur condition will be treated..
most important of all, don't wait for 3 years before seeing the doctor
Contrary to what I'm certain 90% of answerers will tell you, I very much doubt you're bipolar, unless there's a lot you're not telling us. However, you may have cyclothymia which is similar and related. Still, I'd rather that you consider the possibility of borderline personality disorder. Check out the DSM-IV entry on it and see what you think: http://www.psychologynet.org/bpd.html
If that leaves you unsatisfied, here's some information on cyclothymia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclothymia
And if you agree to meds, don't quit on them without the guidance of a doctor. Suddenly removing a chemical from your body can cause your problems to become catastrophically worse.
Bi polar find a good doctor and work to get your meds right
The up and down moods sounds like manic depression but with manic Depression usually you ups are so high you act over the top strange and your low's you would stair at a wall for days and do NOTHING. The fighting and anger stress & anxiety sounds like you have a hard time dealing with things that come your way, it's the little things that would make you blow up. Try to take a class in meditation and learn to relax more. If the meds are not working for you go try something from the health food stores. Try St.John's Wort for the depression. or you could try healing stones -Amethyst, Angelite, Aventurine are for stress. Kunzite, Rutilated quartz are for bi-bolar disorder. It's worth a try anyways!
From what you have shared, you could have Borderline Personality Disorder. I agree with the ones who also say it may be Bipolar. Are you very sensitive? Do you get angry at responses from others that you find offensive, that really are only a reply?
Look this disorder up. But, you know, you could also have some anxiety disorders as well. I know a lot of people don't like doctors, but mental illness is the same as any other disease, whether it is cancer, MS, it has to be treated just the same. There is nothing to be ashamed about, going to a psychiatrist. You are taking care of yourself. Your quality of life may improve with a GOOD DOCTOR, that spends more than 10 minutes with you. In order to make a good and correct diagnosis, you have to have a doctor who listens to you and writes everything down on paper. Don't go back to the same one, if you choose to go back to one. Find a different one. Good luck.
Depression
When your mood changes to up and down you are bipolar. Thoughts racing can be many things, including a psychosis, but it is obviously a mental disorder akin to anxiety. Anxiety is a fear or worry disorder. Having a hot temper is a mood disorder. If you say things that you regret to have said, and if you are blowing things out of proportion then you are a touch psychotic. Flying into a quick rage is another symptom of psychosis, and being bipolar. All of this can be explained by a psychosis or depression, although I don’t see the exact symptoms of depression you are probably suffering from it just the same.
There are medications like lithium that can treat bipolar, and antidepressants can be used to treat depression and a wide range of psychoses. You need to see a professional and get help. You tried that once and were not satisfied with it, but you need to continue. Medication does have some bad side effects, but there are other medication combinations that can have fewer side effects or relieve some of those side effects.
The problem with a psychiatrist is that they like to apply drugs to every problem because it is quick and easy, and often helps, or at least the right drugs help. Most psychiatrists only have a few minutes to treat each patient, gone are the days of you alone on a couch (unless you have a lot of money for that). Instead they prefer group therapy, where one psychiatrist can treat multiple patients.
I hate to say it, but you did a foolish thing by going off your medications. The mind is a subtle thing and it is hard to notice any differences in your mental state. Antidepressants can have powerful effects, but they do so gradually over time, and it is hard to notice these effects. Antidepressants work by increasing or decreasing the amount of a brain neurotransmitter like Serotonin. Each drug works on a different chemical and the treatment takes a few weeks to notice if it has had a positive effect or not. You may also require more of less of a neurotransmitter to get any relief. There is no magic pill that suddenly cures you. Mental disease requires a life long course of treatment.
Please read the Wikipedia article on Bipolar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipolar_disorder
It is a serious disorder that will only get worse, if you don’t treat it.
“Currently bipolar disorder has not been cured although many psychiatrists and psychologists believe that it can be managed. The emphasis of treatment is on effective management of the long-term course of the illness, which can involve treatment of emergent symptoms. Treatment methods include pharmacological and psychological techniques.”

LAMICTAL is a commercial version of Lithium.
“Most people who take LAMICTAL tolerate it well. Common side effects with LAMICTAL include dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision, lack of coordination, sleepiness, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and rash. LAMICTAL may cause other side effects not listed here. If you develop any side effects or symptoms you are concerned about or need more information, call your doctor.”
The rash is the serious problem, and it can be treated with a variety of topical ointments. The dizziness, headache, blurred or double vision will have to be endured, as you body gets used to the drug these symptoms will diminish. With practice the lack of coordination can be adjusted for, the sleepiness can be cured with caffeine and there are medications to help with the nausea, vomiting, and the insomnia. I don’t know what side effects you had to cope with, but they will get manageable with time, and decrease as the dosage decreases. For the sake of you sanity, your wife, and your future happiness together you need to do this. I know it is hard, believe me I do, but it is something that has to be done.
Ask your psycharist to start you at a low dose of antidepressant medication, explain that you aren’t sucidal, and that your mood swings are not major. That will help with some of the side effects. The best way to use Lithim is to start with a large dose (800 mg) and then tapper off to a lower dosage, you need to give the medication time to work. You need to take Lithim with a meal and you need to take a lot of water every day to avoid the dehydration. It can even out your moods making your highs not so great so many people don’t like to take it. Well, that’s tough if you want to bring your other problems under control then you need to take your medications. The bipolar disorder is only magnifing the other problems.
One really good way to help with your problems is to talk it out. Trying to do this with your wife will probably only make things worse, because you seem to get so angry at her. Try an Anger Management Counselor: http://www.angerbusters.com/therapists.php
You can also talk with your family preacher, or try to find a local support group similar to Alcoholics Anonymous.

Your doctor is your guide and your medications are your ammunition in your fight to get well. I have suffered from clinical depression, insomnia, and chronic pain since 1989, and it has only gotten worse over the years. I have seen hundreds of doctors and have taken dozens and dozens of medication. And in all that time I learned a few things. When I see a doctor, any doctor, I prepare a half page paper for them. I save it on my computer and give them a written or digital copy. In it I explain what I am feeling and what I want done. I always address my problems, and I never walk away from a doctor’s visit saying, “I wish had told him…” I always include a list of the medications I am taking, including any over the counter drugs that I use. You have to FIGHT to get well and you need that attitude and to be aggressive about it. The doctor isn’t going to cure you, he can only help you, and you know what’s wrong with you better than anyone else or any test can every say.
You did the right thing you asked for help, now it is your job to take my help and use it. If you have any problems like this you can contact me.
