Any one out there with emotional intensity disorder? How do you feel about the name of the diagnosis?

Emotional intecity disorder used to be called Boderline personality.

Answers:
While I've not had this disorder, I am unfamiliar with the name change. Currently, the DSM-IV-TR is the most up to date diagnostic manual for mental disorders in the USA, and Borderline Personality Disorder remains a classifiable disorder. Are you outside of the US? The ICD-10 is used in many other countries, and there may have been a name change that I was not aware of.

Anyway, I would agree that this diagnosis carries with it an inherent stigmatizing quality. However, Borderline PD is also frowned upon by many due to a lack of understanding of that exactly this condition entails. I would hope that the ApA would either stick with BPD, or change the name to something less stigmatizing and more descriptive than emotional intensity disorder.

I think it is really weird that we have so many problems in this country with this crap- maybe there should be a selfishness disorder and a boredom disorder. I think it is just laughable to people in other countries going through war or communist goverment and just have a plain old hard life.
