Why do some people with mental health problems talk too fast and rush their speach?

It is as though these suffering individuals are trying to CRAM as MANY words as possible into the shortest time possible ..at times almost tripping over their words !

Answers:
because their minds are rushing fast. it is a condition with bipolar, I'm not sure if it is with anyother mental heal disorders. It may also be a symptom of ADHD where the person is a bit hyper and has a hard time slowing down because their mind is at a constant full speed.

Ahhh.Bush's problem is finally diagnosed!
well..
they may be bipolar and cant help it that is a symptom
Because they have mental health problems
Usually bipolar disorder in thier manic phase. It is called "pressured speech". In the manic phase people are more "hyper"
That sounds like something a manic would do. Not all mentally ill people are manics.
a manic bi-polar person, that is all..my own experience
Yup, sounds like mania. Pressured speech and flight of ideas are classic manic symptoms.
Probably anxiety issues on top of the mental health problems. Many people with anxiety often talk too fast whether they have mental health problems or not.
It's not often they find someone who is willing to listen.

WIth my experiences with the mentally ill, I find that I attract their attentions more often than most people - I'm a natural born listener and a psychology student to boot.

Most people I've listened to are so overwhelmed by what they're going through that they feel they have to cram as much information into the shortest amount of time possible because so many people simply walk away from them.

They are desperately trying to CONNECT with another human being - mental illness often leaves people alone and isolated from an already judgemental world, and their rapid speech is an attempt to convey their pain and confusion.

I deal primarily with schizophrenics and bi-polar individuals, and it take an immense amount of time and patience to wade through the vast amounts of information thrown at you in so quickly a period of time.
