I'm curious about something: What is wrong with mild mental illnesses and what are the pros and cons?
I'm doing research on those with mental illnesses if they are looked down upon or something. So state the pros and cons of mental illnesses(mild to moderate or severe) and anything else you can think of. Thanks
Answers:
The only reason they are looked down upon is because soceity is very uneducated about the truth of mental illnesses.
The pros are: you can most always be treated. It is like any physical disability. You learn to work around it.
The cons: You have to work at it until you find the right therapy, or therapies. It isn't always as easy to treat as putting a cast on a broken leg.
Most mental illnesses are genetic. Just like you are born with blonde or brunette hair, you may get adhd or bipolar.
mild illnesses
pros: they are treatable, and easy to do so
cons: if not treated, they can get worse
If you get a chance try to view a documentary called "out of the shadows" Saving Millie. There are definitely two sides. One is the Health side, most insurances have a cap on mental illness treatment. That means if someone has a serious mental illness and has to have time in a facility, usually it won't be covered. Many parents with children with mental illness's go bankrupt because they just can't pay for all of the treatment necessary and insurance won't cover it. In our case, a family member has a personality disorder, which is a form of mental illness. We have hit brick wall after brick wall, because this person has children, has been a danger to them-self and you can't get anyone to help you because they are an adult. It is sad in both cases. A great place to start looking is NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness). Mental Illness not only affects the person that is inflicted with it, but it also devastates family members. Try to see that documentary if you can. If you have a PBS station call them, I think it was aired here. Look on line also.
*bleh!* We're all screwed up. I could care less anymore who looks down on me.
I've learned even when trying to "please" people or "trying" to make a good impression you still screw it up somehow. When it comes to mentally challenged messed up world. Look at our world? Look at whats going on in the streets, and what kids are going through today.. In another 5 years we're all going to be on anti depressants and anxiety drugs!
