Any psychologists out there.why do dreams repeat?
So there are two dreams that have repeated on me, one was recurring when I was a little kid and the other I had a while ago and last night I had it again. Is there a reason why some dreams repeat?
Answers:
Dreams exist in the subconscious mind and generally pinpoint some underlying and unresolved difficulties that a person experiences in his/her waking moments. For example, a dream of fleeing from some kind of danger could indicate a bad relationship where a person subconsciously wants out. These dreams tend to recur until the problem rights itself.
Dreams are symbolic, in that they don't reflect the actual situation, but take on different forms. A person who's afraid of heights may dream of jumping off a bridge or a building -- something they would never do consciously. Those with a fear of water will often dream of drowning.
Dream interpretation is a fascinating subject, and I don't pretend to know everything about it. Did your recurring childhood dream eventually stop? Did the one you had recently have any similarity to what you're experiencing in a relationship or situation? Were they bad dreams, like nightmares, or just a dream? These are questions that a psychologist might ask. In order to get to the real source, you would probably have to undergo psychotherapy or hypnosis. But if they are just ordinary dreams, I wouldn't worry too much about them.
I believe it means you have some unresolved issue(s) that your mind is trying to work out. In trying to figure it out, keep in mind that a stress inducing situation can take on a physical form in dreams.
My own dreams are stupid and ridiculous. They make no sense whatsoever. I dread going to sleep.
