Did 5mg lexapro change your life??

Right now, i'm only taking 2.5mg to get started, but my psyhchitrist told me he will move me to 5mg. I don't want to go higher then that, i'm going to start on September 15 seeing a psychogist and I don't want to get hooked on medication. I really did not want it at all, but i decided i could try it!! But, like i said i will go no higher then 5 becuase, that means more side effects, and more changes in weight. Which i had before with paxil!! So did 5mg help you??

I only take 5 mgs and keep being told that it's not a therapuetic dose, but it works great for me. I have tried tons and tons of other meds and they all made me sick or had bad side effects. I feel tired on 5 mg but it really helps me with my obsessive thoughts and mania (I'm bipolar) However, when I was on 10 mg it really helped with my depression, which the low dosage doesn't do for me. But 10 mg gives me bad headahces and makes me gnash my teeth. As it is, I had to get a mouth guard for at night.
Don't worry about getting "addicted" to it. I have been off and on it for a few years as I tried other meds and kept coming back to it as it is my favorite.

First-please know Lexapro is not addictive. I was taking 20mg. Lexapro is a gradual anxiety/anti depressant drug. Meaning-you don't immediately see results-in about 14-days you'll just feel better. I would try the 5mg and go from there. Please know that this a drug that you can not just stop taking because you feel like it. You must slowly come off the script. Talk to your doctor first if you decided you don't to take it anymore. I personally liked it and would take it again if needed. I also didn't really experience any weight gain.
I was taking 40 mg Lexapro a day and my mania keep escalating.
