Is there an organization to help deal with behavior problems in mentally handicapped children?
My friends daughter is 16 years old. Mentally she is about 5. She has recently become progressively violent. She throws herself down in rebellion and is too big to move (160lbs) or will hit, bite, and has on two occasions gone after relatives with a knife. My friend needs help but doesnt know where to turn.. So Im trying to find some answers other than having the girl committed to an asylum. We live in North Carolina. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Answers:
Ask your State Department of Human Services-they will be able to refer you to a local service and may even help you pay for it.
Contact social services or your State Dept. of Mental Retardation. Ask or see an M.D. in regard to psychotropic meds. There are many agencies to turn to if you don't have health ins.
