Question about Psych Wards and Mental Institutes.?

1.In wards and mental institutes do they tie you up?

2. Do they lock you in the room during the night?

3. Do they have bathrooms in the room or in in the halls like a school, does a nurse have to accompony you?

Answers:
It really depends on the individual institution. Some aren't even allowed to tie up up.
They would only tie you up (safely and humanely of course) if you were being violent to yourself or others, and then they would supervise you while you are tied up, so you don't accidently get hurt.
They would only do it for short periods of times, until they could further evaluate you.
Some do lock you in your room at night. If they do that, they also pay a person to be there all night, and watch in case the patients need anything or if something happens (fire, flood, etc).
Some wards have a bathroom in every room. Others don't . It really depends on what kind of ward or institution you wind up in.
Obviously, if you are suicidal or a danger to others, you will be housed differently than if you aren't violent.
Hope this helps!

The answer to your question is simple - it depends on how sick you are. Some people need to be tied up because they will hurt themselves or others. As for the other questions, I think it depends on the individual places.
it depends on how serious your mental state is, which is most likely bad if your in the psych ward. All I know is that they're not a pleasant place to visit. I went to the one at the local hospital with a friend to visit someone and I wish I never did, I would never want visit one again.
watch the movie Girl Interrupted and u'll know
Depending on the degree of mental illnesses (ie. violent or with inclination to commit suicide). Patients are free to raom within a certain limit of areas. There are classification in these hospitals with regards to the place of confinement (ie. maximum, medium security). In medium security, they have a common bath and toilet facilities, while in maximum, there are individual toilet and bath in each room.
all the above are variables,
and depends on each individual.
private bathrooms are for the wealthy
or depends on the facility.
Diapers come in handy for some,
so does a nurse escort
wards are locked always day and night
mentally ill. and crimanally insane arent really the same thing
some are in danger of hurting themselves while some can be
viloent or dangerous to another.

you have more to worry about with the criminally sane that aren't
incarcerated.
If you were a nurse or doctor administering an evaluation or medicine and the patient continued to flail and swing and couldn't stay still then restraints may be just the thing to get the job done.

healthcare staff tend to want to save your life whether you want them to or not
No they do not tie you up.No they do not lock you in your room at any time.Bathrooms are usually in the hall yes as everyone needs to use them.No a nurse does not have to accompany you unless you are a suicide risk on one to one care.
i have no idea but the thought of a psych ward and being stuck in one scared the hell outta me!!
Honey you are only locked down and restrained to your bed if you are giving the staff and other patients a hard time. They do not lock you in a room with padded walls unless you are a threat to the staff and other patients. Normally your bathroom is right in your room and no one comes with you so don't worry its not as bad in there as you might think. I woudn't lie to you because I am Bipolar and have been there before and as long as you follow their direct instructions everything will be fine.
I have worked for a huge psychiatric ward and it varies from state to state on the laws for issuing restraints. They cannot lock you in your room at night. That is against the law, for patients that are a harm for themselves or others they are put into a observation room and watched by staff workers for 24 hours or more whatever is ordered by the doctor. They had bathrooms in the rooms but I need to remind you that there were 6 or more to a room. A nurse only has to accompany you if you are on restrictions or on watch for suicide/ PICA/ water intoxication ect.
I only know about the psych ward at a VA hospital.they do not lock you up and you are free to roam around the floor all you want.
