I get SO very depressed before my period; WHY?

I do have endometriosis but i dont think that has anything to do with this. Between 7-10 days before my period, I feel so depressed to the point where I feel like a completley different person! I don't want to go anywhere, go to work, talk to anyone, I sometimes cry for no reason and I also get very negative and irritable. I take 75mgs of effexor for anxiety (which runs in my family; my mom and my sister both take the same medication for the same reason) so you would think that the meds would help my PMS but it doesn't seem to be. I can't imagine what I would be like w/out the effexor - now that would be scary. My PMS is so bad that it effects my daily life, my family, my work and my relationships with others. What can I do? I really HATE IT more than anything. Having endometriosis pain is bad enough - adding the mental on top of it is just awful. Somedays I just want to throw in the towel, run off and hide. Please help!
Answers:    Most of the women in my family have endometriosis, and it can be a real *****. My mother went through this and it was awful. Trust me, it is the hormones and endometriosis. The disease can cause major changes in the way your reproductive system operates.

You may want to talk to your doctor. Mom was put on some antidepressants and hormone therapy that really helped. But, ultimately, she had to have a historectomy to resolve all her problems. If your current meds are not working the way you want them to, you should not have to suffer. Talk to your doctor about an alternate solution. Not everyone is the same, even in the same family.
change of hormones
It's classical PMS! Believe me, I'm the queen of PMS. I'm an emotional wreck a good week before my cycle. I do believe in anti depressants, but I'd never take them again. They just cover the real problem. I personally would try meditation, go for a walk. Make sure you take time for yourself to cleanse your mind. Make an attempt to stay out of stressful situations when that time comes around. You'll be fine. It happens to a lot of us. Good luck.
Because women are like animals in the sense they're completely irrational and think instinctively where men are like animals in the sense that procreation seems to dominate thought and every thought somehow leads to sex. I'll be fare and bash both. If women just wanted to have sex all the time the world would be at peace. When men don't get laid they get agressive and bad things happen. The moral of this is that everyone should get some all the time.
hormones. This feeling will change when you get older. Don't worry about it.
cause ya know you're gonna have a stinky snapper soon.
A change of hormons and chemical processes, so your brains gets the wrong signals.
THERE COULD BE SERVERAL ANSWERS TO THIS QUESTIONS, I AM GOING TO TRY TO GIVE YOU A COUPLE LOGICAL ANSWERS THAT I THINK WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS: FIRST OF ALL THINK BACK WHEN YOU HAD A BIG TEST OF SOMETHING IN ABOUT A WEEK, THINK THAT YOU HAD THAT TEST COMING UP AND IT KILLED YOU EVERYDAY BEFORE THE TEST BECAUSE YOU KNEW THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE HARD, WELL THINK ABOUT YOUR PERIOD AS THAT TEST, YOU KNOW THAT IT IS COMING UP AND YOU KNOW HOW MUCH YOUR GOING TO HATE IT AND WHAT IT IS GOING TO DO TO YOUR BODY, YOU DRED IT SO MUCH THAT IT MAKES YOU DEPRESSED. ALSO SOMETHING ELSE WHICH IS MOST LIKELY YOUR CASE IS HORMONES, DIFFERENT PEOPLES HORMONES DO DIFFERENT THINGS. IF YOU WOULD LIKE FOR ME TO GO MORE IN DETAIL WITH YOU ABOUT THIS FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME AT DONALD.THURMOND@GMAIL.COM
there are minor surgical options for your problem..also effexor does not help PMS altogether. you could use motrin which is target specific for that pain and won't intefere with effexor. some of us were just born to deal with bad cycles , but there are treatments for the asking..have you tried "the pill"---talk to your Dr hug
its just hormones girl relax. thats one of the beauties of being a girl..being tempermental, moody, depressed, and etc. and being able to get away with it and know that its just bc of ur hormones.it'll pass.
The anxiety is completely separate from the depression you are experiencing before your period.and the Effexor is not going to help your PMS because Effexor is meant to affect Serotonin levels in the brain.

The problem you are having before your period is due to fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone..otherwise known as the classic changes in hormone levels prior to your menstrual cycle.

Don't feel bad.before my period I feel like I am going to go crazy and I get severely depressed as well. It is completely different from the "normal" depression I usually suffer from because I have a history of depression and anxiety myself..
honey I know what you mean!,but I guess there's nothing you could do about it...when I get really pissed off before my period,I try to take a nap or something.
A drop in hormones during your cycle could cause your mood swings. Having mood swings where you feel seriously depressed or have thoughts of suicidal is not normal pms. It's possibly part of your endo or something else. Talk to your doctor. I take hormonal birth control pills to deal with my monthly mood swings. They've helped me a lot where antidepressants didn't.
it PMS girl nothing but PMS. i would know coz before my periods i tend to become an emotional wreck where anything and everything just plain irritates me and ticks me off. im the kind of person who has an evil temper but im a master at controlling it but when it comes to PMS its the worst thing to be around me when my anger gets the better of me. crying hardy is an option for me but theres times when i wanna do nothing but be able to remove my whole lower torso coz to make everything worse i already suffer from lower back pain!

wel my must have drug is called myprodols and 2of these later im back on track and if im at home i pair this up with a hot water bottle and go try relax till the pain isnt killing me anymore or at least til the drugs kick in.

oh yes apart from taking a hell of alot of painkillers AVOID walking around barefoot at anytime even if you not on your periods coz this is also what tends to make the pain even sharper when you start coz of the cold floors. dont ask how it does coz i dont even know..
PMS
Maybe you're just overweight and you hate yourself for it. maybe you should find someone fatter than you and make fun of them, that would make you feel much better.
