some say rock music is of the devil. how true is that?

what's in rock music? how does it affect a person?
serious answers please. thanks.

Answers:
Music is to the soul like a bandaid is to a cut. Because of this, it is easy to place words in tune with the music that may be subconciously negative to the listener. One should listen carefully to the words of any music. Rock music because of it's beat is sometimes difficult to understand the words. IE another psychiatrist was concerned about her daughter listening to "Bad Days" until I read her the words.

It's not the music, it's the subconcious words that affect a person negatively. Music breathes life into our soul or spirit; that's why certain music lifts us up. It's the universal language of our spirit. Music is just he messenger

I had to stop listening to secular (meaning worldly) music altogether because I noticed a general attitude change in myself. It's not for everyone and I don't think rock music is of the devil because rock music is a genre and there are christian songs out there that have a rock sound to them. To each their own. but Christians are to strive to be set apart from the world in their actions.
Some are wrong! I'm a 43 year old mother, and I love rock music. I listen to it often, when I do housework. It wounds me up. No devil, just don't take some lyrics seriously.
I find in today's rock scene that many of the lyrics question society, the political machine, and in general share a lot of angst with the inequities found in today's world. It's a form of expression to a sound that equates to the emotions being expressed.

It has nothing to do with the devil and everything to do with human emotion and expression through music.

Myself, I find peace in rock music, simply because I hear the angst of others and know that I am not alone with my thoughts. It has been a positive influence for me because it gives me the drive and desire to improve myself, my family and to plan for the security of my future, as best that can be done in times like these.
Some famous rock bands have joked that they worship the devil, some actually do worship the devil.

I like rock music anyways.

I would also guess that it is because people stopped doing work to listen to the music, or skipped church to by the latest Elvis album. I don't really know though, that is only a guess.
All types of music have questionable lyrics. I think you have to look at the whole picture. If I need need to be really active I go for music that is upbeat. I wind down to softer music. Neil Diamond is good for any mood.
When I was a child I was told Bill Hailey and the Comets, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis were the devils in disguise, and rock and roll was the devils tool and we were all going to hell. Well guess what, the kids who listened to that are now the ones condemning you now. I will say that I don' like anything that glorifies rape, murder and cruelty, but that is only in some of the rock music. It seems like every age gets condemned for something. The waltz was condemned because people embraced, the Charleston was condemned, the fox trot, the jitter bug. Be true to yourself
I don't think music could be the Devil. I do think some rock bands, just like some rap, country, and other genres may have a negative message in their songs. Any song that makes you feel hate, rage, anger, depressed, etc. may be influenced by the worlds evil forces and people may relate them as "the devil" because of the effect the music has over the mind. If you are angry, and full of rage from a song, that does not do any good for your mind or soul. A negative mind is what the forces of evil desire. There is a negative force that is present and it is known as the devil to some religions, and yes I think it influences our minds. But no the devil is not in the music.
Nothing is "of" the devil. God made the world. The devil will just use whatever he can to destroy good. He comes to kill, steal and destroy.

I think people use the phrase "rock music is of the devil" becuase it is very often negative and associated with sinful acts. But there is some great Christain rock music out there that is worship.
I grew up listening to rock music, it has not affected me, now I like all kinds of music. I still listen to rock, r & b, some country, Bjork, some rap. It has not made me a criminal. I have heard all kinds of rock music and I am not part of the devil. I guess it just depends on the person??
I like rock music and dont think of it that way. Seriously who could listen to gospel all the time
everyone has their opinions, certain music however seems to make me angry and upset when i did listen to it,i think if your goin to listen to music it should make you feel good, not bad.
Real rock music has nothing to do with the Devil, but there is some music out there that is devil related, but its not called Rock.
The only thing that is of evil is the way we react to what we see and hear. Some people listen to vivid music and become emotionally disturbed, whereas some people can listen more objectively. Movies, books, websites, and music all have the power to manipulate in any way if the person observing it is affected. 20 people can listen to the same song and have 20 different opionions about it, so it's not the song, it's the listener.
rock music is of the devil!! Yeah right! However said that is lying. OK some of the lyrics are a bit insane but who cares. A song is a song it all depends on how you take it. I love rock it brings out the wild side of me
I love kid rock devil w/o a cause i'm very moral i think it's what you see in it
That's a bunch of sh;t
God made the Music. it is the words that hurt. There are many rock bands that give good messages. Rock music can affect a person in differnet ways, make them more rowdy or calm.
I haven't heard anyone say that in years.

A person has a free will and can make his or her own decisions. Rock music may be one in a series of choices that a person makes. It doesn't have any real sway over an individual's actions.
There is no such thing as the Devil.
Thank You...

Rock music is not of the devil. What a bizarre thing for someone to say. I am a Christian (a very strong Christian) and I like rock music.
none of the rock music i listen to is of the devil! i love rock music and i love God very much.
It most certainly is not. People who claim that the lyrics in a song were instructing them to do bad things had a screw loose to begin with. I have listened to rock music all my life and I stay current with the popular artists in today's rock scene. I am now a middle-class, middle-aged woman with a husband, a teenage daughter, and a mortgage. I do not worship the devil nor do I have a criminal record. That is a load of crap that people hand you while they preach to you that the only way to live is their way. Be an individual.
I don't even like rock music but it is not the devil.
1. First of all, who is filling your head with mind paté?

2. Music is a grouping of notes into patterns, some repetitive. No laws broken. No one got burnt. Everyone danced and had a good time.

3. Whoever told you that just doesn't care for rock music. They may well say the same of Vivaldi or Hayden's music, if they don't like it.

4. I've never seen a devil — don't know what it would look like, therefore, as far as I am concerned, it does not exist.

5. On the other hand, I have seen evil people. Since I have witnessed their modus operandi, I believe they exist.

6. If you like rock music, enjoy!
we are affected by sound all kinds of sound.
listen to hard, thrashing, heavy metal then sit by a stream or the ocean and try not to notice the difference.
rock it self is hard and when u hit ur head on it u know better
rock music is just like the feeling u will undergo when u hit on devils head.
pl understand. its good listening in low volumes but u can't hence its yes for ur Q
Rock music can make you happy, sad, excited, serene, contemplative -- there's rock music for every mood. I think it's closer to being "of God" or "of Allah" than being "of the devil."
When Rock first got popular there were lotsa christians preaching against it, and then there was Stomen Norman who sang about Jesus and the Bible and took that money and did lotsa good works, and PETRA and others who by their life style showed it was just music and another form ofexpression that can be used to promote the Message of Jesus. This once again shows one does not have to be a genious to be a christian. I think we suffer from making these stupid mistakes becuz we understand there is evil out there it scares us (it should not) and we want to see it so we pick something we don't understand. Un fortunately others who are evil have seen this weakness and exploited it, In walks the BUSH family.
i listen to rock and am a pretty good citizen. when i say rock i mean usually catch me listening to seether, marilyn manson, alice and chains, metallica.that kind of rock. people who see me driving down the road would never guess i was rockin out in my car. i'm a 42 yr old soccer mom. i've had no ill effects of the music.
