Have you ever overcome depression?

If so, how did you do it?

Answers:
Yes I have at the time thing were pretty bad. I told no one not even my Mum or my boyfriend. I nearly lost my job as i had been off work for two months without my boyfriend and my Mum knowing. In fact they still don't and that was over three years ago.

I eventually had mild anti depressants, but the side effect was that oI could not sleep, If I have no sleep i am like a bear with a sore head so i stopped them. I made myseld get out of bed everyday, it was hard as I was not leaving the house (I lived alone) unless my BF was about. I lived a total lie!

I used to get my vclothes ready and then wake up to them so i had a reason to get dressed. I used to always make sure that the house was tidy and washing up was done so I did not wake to it as it could take me over the edge when i was really bad. The best and worst thing i had to do was make myself and I really mean MAKE myself go for a walk every day. The excercise made me feel great and the fresh air helped. I did not allow myself to use the interent as that is also a drowning trap when you are down or watch too much TV.
It was hard and i actually did it on my own, the good thing is that if I ever feel myself falling back, I put stratergies in place to support myself. I did go for two sessions with a councellor and it helped but i did the hard bit. I retufrrned to work and changed my job shortlky after. I have had great success and I still have the same BF. It takes a daily pressure but set small targets like a 30 minute walk or reading for an hour to get yourself out of the routine of your depressed life. If i can do it anyone can!
Hope if this question was because you are feeling down that you can pull through, becuase hell you can appreciate life so much more and start living the life intended for you!
Good luck. CJay

I used to take meds & it made it not as bad.
But I don't think it ever goes ALL away.
I've got depression and still hoping to overcome it.
For the most part. I did counseling and meds and once we figured out why I was depressed I stopped taking the meds. Now when I get depressed or just feel out of sorts, I stop and figure out what is going on in my life. If it's something I can change, I do. If it's out of my control, I just know it will change and let it go.
with support and lots of prayer. when in or when youare oppressed you need not be alone and only prayer helped me and self awareness. the love from and for my children
for me its go wing to the gym exercise find a hobby.snap out off it it helps.
If it's diagnosed depression I don't think it can be overcome because it's a chemical imbalance.
Ive tried every med in the book but none of them will ever cure or even manage what im depressed about so some days i take them some days i dont
Regrettably, I dont believe anyone can overcome depression. It can be more tolerable with the right RX .,. I am taking 450 mg Effexor XR daily and it helps. I have been to psychologists but have little confidence in their "treatments." I have been depressed for many years. Some days are worse than olthers. ON the bad days I tend to stay to myself. Good Luck - perhaps your condition is not as grave as mine.
It sounds cheesy and ridiculous, but I began to pray. The depression lifted, and hasn't returned (this was about 20 years ago). I can actually remember the the moment of change -- praying with total desperation -- along the lines of, "I can't help myself, and if you don't help me, I'm going to die." And somehow, by some means, by some grace, hope was restored to me.

I'm not opposed to meds, and I can't say by any means that this would work for anyone but me. but it did work for me.
You don't really overcome depression - You work through it and survive with it. It was diagnosed as being Clinically Depressed when my Mom died 18 years ago. I have my moments but I know the feelings will pass and I will be fine.

You acknowledge what you have and keep moving forward. Trying always to make the best of what you have and what will be. Take life day by day enjoying each moment as it comes. You will be fine..
by believing in God almighty..
when u know that He's ALWAYS there for us n that He cares for us more than anybody else n that only He can get us out of troubled times.
i used to be very depressed before i truly believed in Allah.. but after i believed in him .. my life has totally changed.. the things that mattered a lot seem so small now..
i used to get depressed if i got less numbers in my tests.. if somebody said sumthin bad to me. or if a teacher scolded me .. etc etc..
but after believin in God .. i see these things as very small .. n know that these r simple part of life.. everybody gets "set-backs".. u have to believe in Him n He'll get u out of them..
I can't be too specific; but basicly, find your job (the one which people might count on you to do) and do it. Experience and practice will soon establish you irreplacably as "THE one who does the job you do."
Clinical depression, yes, but only with medication. I was depressed for more than thirty years before it was diagnosed and the appropriate medication was prescribed. I've been taking it for over twenty years and rarely get depressed. I did cry for months when a coyote killed my cat, but that wasn't clinical depression.
Clinical depression is usually caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.
It is said that depression is anger turned inwards.
It does not help for people to say "pull yourself together," "snap out of it," or "count your blessings." If you're really depressed, these things are impossible.
Management depends on how severe depression is. Mild to moderate depression may respond to psychotherapy (talking therapy)

Depression prevalence rate is around 2- 5 % and lifetime rates 10-20%.
