Is there any proof that drinnking causes someone to be more honest?

In a way. It lowers your inhibitions which are controlled by aspects of your frontal lobe. You are more apt to act in ways that would be blocked by moral reasoning if you weren't under the influence. Some behaviour that is deemed socially appropriate then, may get translated into action if inhibitions about that behaviour are lowered as a result of intoxication. Drinking does not change one's personality, however, so there are limits to the effect of alcohol on one's behaviour.

Alcohol loosens inhibitions. Often that involves a breakdown of the filters in between our thought and our words, but it can work either way. For example, when Mel Gibson got piss drunk last month and went off about how much he hates Jews, he was most likely revealing his true feelings. Alternately, when I'm piss drunk in a bar, and telling a woman how great she looks, I'm most likely lying because I want to get her into bed.

I think drinking just releases inhibitions, so you say things you wouldn't normally say. Usually stuff like you tell people you're in love with them, or whatever. There is rarely a good outcome, however.

Bill you took my answer. Your right on the thinking parts of the brain get shut down and emotions come out drug effected, which in turn means they really do stupid stuff when intoxicated. Peoples inhibitions are also lowered so they do not care what they say.
