I love books. The problem is when I am at the bookstalls I get irresistible impulse to buy books.?

I have got more than five bookshelves in my house and I keep on buying more and more with the result that there are many books that are just new and unread. Do I have some kind of a menia?

That is a problem. I pity the fool who has to help you move. Why don't you go to libraries?
Probably not. Maybe an addiction to spending money? I love books too, and until reciently I was doing the same thing. I made the decision to stop buying books until I read all of the books that I have. It was difficult and I found that I have to stay away from bookstores in order to do it. Now, I only allow myself into a bookstore if all of the books on my shelves have already been read. I still feel a very strong desire to go into a bookstore whenever I see one, but I remind myself that I have books at home to read and then I run as fast as I can in another direction. It's hard, but I have a lot more money now. And I still get to read books. I spend more time in the library so I don't feel a constant need to go to the bookstore.
You probably have a mild compulsion to buy books--kind of like an addiction, without the physical component.

Look at it this way: You like books; maybe you love to learn new things, or you're entertained by the stories; or you love the smell and feel of a new book. There's nothing wrong with that; I'm that way too.

It's no different from girls who buy lots of clothes, and end up with a closet stuffed full of things they don't wear. unwise, maybe, but not an actual mental illness. It's when you start to obsess about buying new things day and night, or buy so much that you can't pay your bills, that things start to go out of hand.

Where it goes a little too far: You associate new books with positive emotions. Therefore, you get as many new books as you can, because of that mental connection that says "new book=feel good".

I'm not suggesting AA meetings or anything, but maybe it's time to limit yourself. Go to the library instead of the bookstores; that way you can get new-to-you books for free, without any financial investment. Or, if you just love new books, limit yourself to a certain number of books per month, or set one day a month (or so) when you allow yourself to buy a new book.
I don't know, but I did the same thing with books, DVDs and videotapes. If you look around, on places like CraigsList and Amazon, lots of people have lots of stuff, and they're trying to get rid of it.

I think part of the problem is our culture. We're programmed to buy, buy, buy. Part of it may be mental, too. My dad kept a lot of stuff.

Ultimately, it was up to me to get rid of my stuff. And eventually, I traded in a lot of it for cash at a used-book store. When I go to bookstores now, I carry only a little cash and no credit card. I also draw up a list of stuff I want, and I stick by it. I also quit the book-of-the-month club, and I use the library a little more. I still have plenty of stuff, and I find that the longer I keep it, the easier it is to part with it.

I also found that when the focus of my life shifted from me to somebody else, it was easier to part with my stuff. I guess I got a life, and I got rid some of my baggage.
Go to the public library instead,it's free
Could be, but I doubt it. But you'll probably outgrow it, as you become more happy and content with yourself.
