my husband is doing the same thing.. its like you always need a taste factor in your mouth. I suggest the lowest level of nicotine in the patch and a huge bag of scotch mints. The mint helps cut the tar and everything in your mouth. Have one right after the othe, if need be. The lowest thing in your life you could do is go back to smoking. you've stopped now, get some help from friends, and your family.. go kick a soccer ball around or shoot some hoops (even if your not that good) Good Luck! Oh and I don't know if you know about this drug its called Zyban. They say it helps you quit smoking as well you take it for 3 months and its kinda like a antidepressent it pretty much shuts down that part of the brain that signals you to stop smoking. its only avail in a perscription so maybe when you see the doctor ask about that.
Maybe the reason why your eating is because your bored. Find something to occupy you time.
Keep in mind the physiological addiction ends by 72 hours. The rest is just putting something in place of smoking and it doesn't have to be food. When you feel a craving for anything, take a walk or exercise.
go talk to a shrink Hun. I am not being funny I am being very serious. Go talk to a psychiatrist.
chew gum or at lest eat healthy alternatives if that doesn't work, carrots tomatoes celery grapes ...
So, don't quit cold turkey. i know it sounds terrible, but start smoking again until you can get a prescription for one of the stop smoking drugs. If you insist on not smoking buy some of that nicotine gum My sister used to smoke 2 packs a day, and now is down to 5 cigarettes a day with both the patch, and the pill. Sure, she isstill smoking, but not 50 cigarettes!
chew some gum and put a rubber band around your wrist to snap when you need it.
Try meditation and yoga, get in touch with yourself and your surroundings. Learn your true value and the value of life. Just continue to avoid smoking and eventually it will get better. See a therapist if you need to, remember that eventually you will leave your physical body and be reunited with whatever ultimate power you believe in. Your pain, my pain, the worlds pain will not last forever.
You need to keep occupied. You think you need a smoke and you eat instead.
It should pass with time as you no longer think about smoking.
Try reading The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. It worked for me, after 22 years on the cigs, and I didn't overeat to copmpensate as I had when I'd tried to 'give up' previously.
Good luck!
Have you heard of the patches, gum and pills
they now have for to help people quit smoking?
You must see your doctor for this. I quit smoking
2 years ago and was jonsing for the longest time.
I sweated out Nicotene for at least 2-3 months.
And now, I can tell anyone who smokes cigs.
They smell like cig smoke and also their clothing
reaps of nicotene.
The first thing to say is that you have the ability to assume responsibility for your predicament. Secondly, smoking filled a space in your world, and when you ceased, it left a vacant spot. All you really need do, is to fill that spot, with a creative energy devoted to some ACTIVITY. Maybe it will be going to the gym, or taking up dance classes, or volunteering so that you can help OTHERS (nothing quite like that for lifting you right out of your own situations; and placing the focus on other people's problems is wonderful for peace of mind!)
Lastly, do not use food to replace that empty space: this is due to the obvious negative effect it has on you, alright? So, eat three regular meals per day, get some good, high quality B complex (at least 50 mg's per B group vitamin) and ensure that you are handling other areas of your life that need attention.
Good luck with your efforts: you CAN win, you know: have faith in yourself!
you need to see a doctor asap,i gave up smoking 3yrs ago,and worked in a shop,i'd have a microwave meal for my dinner, then a couple of bags of crisps, then a microwave burger and a bar of chocolate,(by the way i'm only a size 10-12)so its not as though i'm greedy,i just ate through boredom, when it was time for a cigarette
break,i'd eat instead.and yes, didnt know when to stop, started putting on weight, decided smoking again, weight, droppped off,its a vicious circle.but if its coming to the point where your harming yourself, you need help, dont just ask for it,demand it,there are so many people taking the p**s out of the nhs, when there are people who need it.good luck.
Hi Hun! I just stopped smoking 21 days ago, three weeks. I'm doing good. I am still sucking on suckers though. But I started doing two tapes kathy Smith and Billy Blanks. This seems to help me feel more satisfied. I do eat but I eat Low carb foods. Try to start thinking I going to get in shape for myself and second for my family and friends. The hardest part for me is to get motivated to start the tapes BUT once I do I'm ok. So Congratulations!! I am Proud of You!! God Bless you and try to excercise It will help with your matabulism and make you feel fuller. It does for me any ways. I hope this will help you too. Hugs! Von! P.S. Some low carb foods are: Salted peanut, cherries, skim milk, fettucine pasta, low-fat fruit yogurt, apples and apple juice unsweetened. These are also low glycemic foods. These seem to curb your appetite. Good Luck! I know you can do it!
