Antidepressants & antianxiety medication?
My psychiatrist told me I could not be on antianxiety medication if I was not on an antidepressant as well. Has anyone else ever been told this? I feel anxiety, but I do not feel depressed.
Answers:
You need to talk with another doctor. I know plenty of people who are on anxiety meds, but not on anti-depressants. It's two different diagnoses. Some people have both but not everyone.
GET A SECOND OPINION
lexapro and effexor treat both
sOME PSYCHIATRISTS EQUate anxiety with depression. I think they are wrong.
Never heard that before. I would try a new doctor. I took Zoloft for years for my anxiety and it was great! Just a suggestion. Most antidepressants are for anxiety as well, so it makes no sense that he would tell you that. Unless he meant you would have to take the antidepressant for the anxiety.
It sounds like he is pushing things at you that will reward him with incentives from the drug manufacturers.
Most anxiety disorders are also classified as depression related. Dr. will usually prescribe one that treats the chemical imbalance that leads to both. Most times it is one pill but sometimes two different ones acting on different chemicals may be called for.
They put you on all kinds of junk. I used to take all kinds of meds for the mind but I stopped, They will have you scared to death next or put you on something that is hard to get off of.
Get another doctor. This one is not listening to you. I am on Buspar for anxiety and panic attacks, and am not taking an anti-depressants.
2dn opinion needed
NOW THEY ARE GOING TO ANTIANXIETY/ANTIDEPRESSANTS DUAL PURPOSE MEDS LIKE LEXAPRO,IT TREATS BOTH AND BY THE WAY IS THE #1 SELLING DRUG IN AMERICA.YOUR DR. IS WRONG THOUGH YOU MOST SURELY Can be ON 1 WITHOUT THE OTHER,ITS A CASE OF DOCTORS PREFERENCE!HES PROBABLY DRAWN HIS OWN CONCLUSION BOTH ARE BEST IN YOUR CASE.
I've been on med for panic attach over 15 yrs. When I was on xanax, anti depresant was used, but made matters worse. Xanax will cause depression. I am on clonazipam now and doing great.
I would get a 2nd opinion, or ask your doctor what else is available that would not need an antidepressant. Or, tell him you simply do not want to take antidepressant and ask "what now"??
No, I have not. If that doctor says that you cannot be on either an antianxiety medication or an antidepressant, then I would seek another doctor. I have been on Effexor XR for the last five years and it has worked great. I know from personal experience that if you totally disagree with your current therapist, you should ask to transfer your case to another therapist. It is simply not cool or appropriate if you stay with that same therapist. Only you know yourself.
I am on both..but not everyone is. Anxiety doesn't mean depression..they it can. I would agree with most of the people on here and say that you need to get a second opinion.
Some meds are used to offset side effects of others, or work better together. Ask more questions or see another Dr.
thats absolute nonsence but maybe they think you can handle your anxiety and dont want you to become dependant on antianxiety medications. most are addictive. and you dont feel depressed cuz you are on antidepressants.
