Counseling helps you isolate the source of your depression. For some, it may be abuse as a child. For others, it might be loss of a loved one. Depression is largely untargeted grief--a feeling of hopelessness without a clear reason. Once you identify the underlying reason for your grief, you can agressively begin to deal with that grief.
When I was in counseling, I found that the medication didn't do much but tear up my stomach. Personally, I wish I'd never taken it.
With counseling, it took me about 4 months to "recover." But that naturally varies from person to person.
Clinical depression is a state of sadness, melancholia or despair that has advanced to the point of being disruptive to an individual's social functioning and/or activities of daily living. Although a low mood or state of dejection that does not affect functioning is often referred to as depression, clinical depression is a medical diagnosis and is different from the everyday meaning of "being depressed".
are you depressed.is that why ur asking this question.if you are go o ur doc NOW.they offer councilling and other theripy.also.it is different for everyone so there is no set time that you get better.xxx
Since going on drug therapy four years ago I have never stopped taking them. They help so much. The talk therapy helped but not nearly as much. See a psychiatrist and make sure they work with you not as a dictator but really listen to you about how you feel on the drug however.
neurofeedback
There is lots of good medication out there, you can't do it alone for a while, so take some medication and don't tell anybody, its no ones business! Its going to be an lifelong struggle, but don't give up...make sure you have lots of friends to help you thru the rough stuff.stay away from negative ppl.they only wanna see you fail.stay only with ppl.who lift you up.you will have good day and bad.but just look ahead..try new things to occupy you new clean life.good luck to you.
My advice to you friend, is to ask your medics about this. Everybody's experiences are different, and if you think you have a measuring stick that you don't scale on..you are going to feel worse.
We are only lay people on here. This is too serious for Q and A's.
And of course, there is the abusive element on here.who will only ever harm you.
Good luck. Seek professional advice. XX
i suffer from depression and its no joke dont take advice from anybody determine what the problem is on yer own and fix it on yer own if yer not strong enough to do that live with it for awile dosent kill u makes u stronger good luck and lots of love p.s. ive been struggling for bout 8 years
Some people get sad when a relationship ends. But, this tends to fade. This is not depression. Depression is when you're down and there's not a reason you can think of for it. Drugs can help you get back to life and allows you to get things in order. A psychiatry won't help you do this, but a psychiatrist will. :)
Depression is a medical condition. It doesn't just go away. It is a imbalance of chemicals in the brain. I have taken a mixture of Effexor and Cymbalta for a while and i feel better then i ever have. There is no shame in taking meds if it is needed to make your life better!
