Overcoming anxiety.anyone know of a self help book for teens?

My daughter is 14. She has had, for several years I believe, social anxiety with some OCD. She hasn't wanted to talk to anyone or take any medication. She did agree on a self help book. I am looking for something that would be on her level. Any ideas?

Answers:
This might be a bit above her level but I would recommend The Dance of Intimacy, and other similar books, by Harriet Lerner. My counselor suggested it when I was overcoming depression and anxiety and it has really made a positive impact on my life. She has many other "Dance" books, including one on Fear (about anxiety) that may be helpful too. I kept a journal to write things down while I was reading and that helped me too.

I really understand where your daughter is coming from. I finally got help when I was 20 for my depression and anxiety and went through counseling for about nine months and it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck!
